Just taken off the wheels for refurb. Noticed that rear N/S studs wobbled when I put the nuts back on, to stop them getting lost.
All tight on offside.
How are the wheel studs fixed at the hub and is the wobble safety critical?

I think they are a drive fit in the hub with a 'head' on them to stop them pulling through when you tighten them.
Not liking the sound of them being loose as they will wear the holes in the hub oval in time.

Every stud I've had dealings with had a spline fit into the hub, and with a head like Arwyn said. The old ones are drifted out from the front, new ones pulled into place using a spacer and the nut.
They should be tight, and if one is loose it needs looking at.

I replaced mine (+8) a few years ago I think they were 7/16 UNF the ones i got were from a Ford rally spares site which sells heavy duty studs, as DaveW says they just knock out and press in.

As others have said, fine splines & tight friction fit, you need to investigate any looseness or play This is a rear hub shot, from servicing last year & you can just make out the edge of the splines around each stud hole ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/02/25/OS-rear-brakes-2.jpg)
