Correct. But when I go to Ernie the seats are set for me, Lady HB has something similar to a credit card so if she is using it, the seats automatically set for her...and no phone needed... Paranoia strikes now though if eg nipping from car to letter box without the phone due to panic thinking you’re going to locked out (ignoring the fact that someone could steal the car if they nipped in behind you). Previously I was in the habit of taking the key out of the ignition instinctively..... HB

IElectric adjusting seats? Why? It is a general use family car. Maybe they are for lazy, incompetent idiots? I think you'll find most cars have electric seats. Perhaps most people are lazy, incompetent idiots? The Tesla has, of course, got massive battery power - it's a battery vehicle. Adjusting the seat makes no difference to the range, nor does putting on the Sat Nav, aircon, wipers or heated seats. Like Peter's previous Mercedes, the seat position, the side mirrors, A/C settings and other things are personalised to the phone that's opened the car. A very useful function if your wife or anyone else drives the car. That's really interesting. Air con saps about 10% of a petrol car's power and reduces range I think. How does the battery system avoid that? Nick

It will eventually sap the range - I watched a test where the cabin heating was left on for 4 days continuously - but the point is that you don't need to avoid putting any of these things on..

Most people will use the car's app on their phone - if you have the phone on you and you're next to the car, the car will unlock. But there's also a card if you don't have a mobile phone and there's a fob too. I imagine most people buying a Tesla (or any other EV) would not leave home without a phone on them. I leave home with only my phone these days - no cash, no car keys, no credit cards.

Nielda .... can't see me ever owning an EV as, paradoxically, I'm too 'green' for charging ..... you're brave relying entirely on a phone for everything .... it may be different if you live in a densely populated area with loads of shops and services within easy reach .... living where my 'local services' are a small village co-op 4 miles away I've found three times in the last month I've gone there and the card system is down for some reason so 'cash only' .... when the next nearest shop is another 8 mile trip it pays to have a bit of cash on you.

That's a good plus for EV that I'd never considered...having the aircon on with no loss of power is brilliant. Nick

Yet more examples of unnecessary ech in modern cars? Bloody hell, how much effort is there in manual choice? More to go wrong too. Owner to recovery.....my car won’t start. Recovery company....we’ll tow you to your dealer for them to sort out, sir. I see you have our insurance policy to cover dealer costs. That will save you a fortune. You do know that their warranties are very restrictive so good choice on the policy.
