There in lies the issue finding a rolling road for the M3W. There are some default options built into the S&S ECU to get a reasonable baseline map. Yes/No options include higher lift cams and if selected will bring the mapping close enough for the adaptive to cope. A rolling road (or road tune) will allow fine tuning the settings and allow the fuel adaptive to be switched off. The stock ECU is locked to preserve the homologation emissions settings and as far as I know the only people with the unlock codes are S&S and MMC so unfortunately buying a new, unlocked ECU is the only option. Whether the new (Thailand?) owners of the X-Wedge rights will have the codes and be willing to release them - only time will tell.

That's a very interesting point Chris - nearly every manufacturer has someone within their development teams willing to let the Checksum codes out of the back door - they're too big to stop it I suspect. Which might be exactly how MMC and S&S have managed to keep that to themselves for so long, as there's only two sources and both are conscientiosly playing ball. Audi, BMW and M-B have new ECU lock-codes flying out the door pretty much within weeks of a new vehicle/ECU release and we all know how big the industry is around OBD tuning these days - money buys information quite easily now I guess (or indeed a cheap Chinese box to allow you to steal a posh motor with keyless entry.... )

I would conjecture that the sale of the X-wedge design and/or tooling does not include the ECU. It is my understanding the ECU used for the X-wedge is based on a unit that S&S sells for other Harley based applications. So a somewhat universal ECU with application specific configuration.

All of you that changed the standard X-Wedge specifications to Stage2, using even new ECUs.... what an envy I have! I'm surprised however that in many EU countries you're doing that... Aren't emissions tested when you pass the MOT? Here in Spain YES they test the emissions. So, if you're not compliant with the Euro4 (in my case) because you’ve changed the ECU and cams… you have a problem. They will not stamp your MOT sheet and you’re consequently not allowed to run the car until you solve the fault. This said, in Spain the only thing I can do is doing a stage 1 (air filter intake – done – and more free exhausts – to be done). But cams and new ECU…. Looks impossible here

In UK M3Ws fall in a grey area between bikes & cars. I never had an emissions check for my MOT. I have standard ECU & just a bafflectomy so likely its still compliant if it ever was.

In the UK emissions on tricycles, M3W's, are not tested at the MOT.
When I took mine for its first MOT, the tester performed an emission test and could not get it to pass Euro 3 it was close so he let it pass. We subsequently discovered the emission test was not required and they have not tried again.

Mine is still new. January 2020. So I don't have to pass the MOT untill January 2024. But It's clear that if I change cams, I have a high risk to have an issue in three years from now with the MOT...
