Further outbreaks and localised lockdowns are inevitable, especially with summer holidays and the inevitable beach crowding which we saw last year but may be a lot worse this year if foreign travel remains off limits.
Tell me about it, living in a coastal community which traditionally has the Lancashire Valleys as its catchment area with some of the highest R levels and long lived outbreaks in the UK. No foreign travel will make life very difficult at the coastal towns everywhere. Thank goodness by then we will have had our second vaccinations and have at least some resistance to the onslaught that is coming. Last summer with the massive tourist influx quite a few local pubs and restaurants were closed, some 3 and 4 times in quite quick succession due to covid outbreaks amongst staff etc.

Same here. And if they do catch it, it's very very rare for them to get sick. We've had hundreds test positive and the vast majority have been asymptomatic. The downside is they take it home and kill their parents/grandparents.

The results from Israel are very heartning with transmission down from vaccinated people and cases falling. Yes, >95% immunity from 2 doses is much better than the test results implied.

I wouldn't want to live in any tourist trap right now. Even our local "hot spots" are hot with numbers of day trippers, and affecting the lives of locals.
Knowing how it gets in Devon & Cornwall anyway, and this year with restricted global travel I suspect it will become unbearably busy well into autumn.
Even last year, when we managed a week in a friend's cottage in Cornwall in mid October, when normally the village of Portscatho is deserted, last year it was heaving with visitors.

Yes it is reassuring, it appears the average age of admissions to hospital is falling with less and less from the over 65 age groups and increasingly more unfortunately in the 40's and 50's being admitted. Obviously as the age lowers of those vaccinated we will see younger and younger age groups unfortunately forming the admissions to hospitals. I'm looking forward to the opening up, were we might see nightclubs opening only to the over 65's, raves for the over 70's etc the vaccinated generations who have been most affected so far and the younger generations having to be a little more circumspect about what they do and social distancing etc as they become the future hosts for these continually mutating pandemic...might force up vaccination take up levels etc for the snow flake, millennial generations.......time will tell

Dave I was in Felixstowe today collecting the MIL for lunch (she is in our bubble & comes ofr lunch every weekend). With the sun out & the temperatures up I expected the seafront to be very busy but it wasn't. On question time last week one scientist stated that there was no evidence that last years crowded beaches or hospitality helped the spread. I think the majority are being sensible.

I hope you're right John, and we no longer go away in summer anyway, as we avoid crowds, and always have done.
I'm just hoping that it doesn't get difficult booking in anywhere, because demand for hotel rooms will be up significantly this year.

Well, Ewn and myself have dropped enough hints as to the hidden charms of the neglected NE corner of Scotland ... there's a NE250 version of the NC500 and tourists are a rare sight compared to the West. .... just don't spread it around ..... happy to see more Morgans driven by the sensible who haunt this forum .... but hordes of chavs we can do without!! 🙂
