Should there be an  OBD / diagnostic port of any description hidden away on my 4/4 (1994, 1.8 zetec)?

If the answer is 'yes', what should I be looking for? So far, I've failed to find anything hidden away behind the dashboard which looks even remotely like the OBD port I'm used to.

If I remember correctly Ford had a 3-pin version of diagnostic connection. I had a 1993 4/4 with a cvh efi engine that had that 3pin port that preceded the OBD standardisation to the multi pin port. I did manage to find a Draper diagnostic tool for it but never needed to use it and sold it. Try the Ford owner forums as another option.

If it's in the same place as on my '93 silvertop Zetec it's under the bonnet on the bulkhead drivers side.
I'll have a look in a bit and get a photo if necessary.

Three photos. Two show the OBD ports - red caps.
One shows the OBD reader - 2 connectors to the OBD ports and one to 12V live. I think the reader was a Draper part, but a Google search for 1994 Ford Mondeo (other models are applicable) diagnostic code reader should find one.

Hope that helps! smile

Excuse the slight drift of thread but does anyone know exactly where the diagnostic port is on a 2002 4/4? There are sheets of rubber under the dash which hinders a quick peep. thinking

I think by law the OBD socket has to be within 200mm of the steering column, on newer cars anyway . My '95 has it on the passenger side but would be within 200mm if the car was LHD.

Thinking back to my 1993 car Graham’s photos ring a bell. The port was under the bonnet on the rear part of the engine.
