Good idea Jon. Remember to open and close that gate valve on a regular basis as well. They have a nasty habit of seizing!

Yes and once seized if you apply the additional leverage that brings I would be worried about the risk of it sheering and piddling on your tootsies? More leverage could bring more risk so be careful

Always when you open a gate valve turn it back 1/4 to 1/2 turn. That helps stopping it sticking & if it does stick you can go either way to release it

Needed a small straight stainless steel barrel bolt, a root through boxes of left overs revealed some 8" ones with a crank which were re-purposed with a bit of careful cutting this morning

I went to remove my wires for cleaning but the bar steward nuts weren't moving using a Mulfab spanner. I used to have the Miller spanner but sold it as the S1 had alloys: alas the T boning crash led to the replacement with wires.
The Mulfab wouldn't turn them. Finally all that stuff saved for a rainy day became useful. A Thule roof rack bar & two jubilee clips later & I can move them.
I think I need to find long term a better spanner or ideally a socket but can't find anything on the web currently. If you know of any please let me know.

You need one of these - he does them for Octagonal, as well as the 2 and 3 ear spinners. Spinner Thread

John, I have the Mulfab tool and a special socket with very long handle but, to be honest, I find that nothing will move them after a few hundred miles and I always end up going back to the factory spanner and hitting with the hammer just to break the seal as it were, then use the mulfab.

Nick i understand the self tightening aspect. I just hate the hammer route. The badge works ok.

Spoke to Lionel who seems very helpful a unit is on order. The badge/ bodge will be come redundant in a few weeks time.
