I was at a petrol station a couple of years ago and there was some old bloke in a camper towing a beautiful old Riley, wetting his knickers about the E5 in the fuel and trying to find if there was anything ethanol free. He was blocking two pumps and causing a right stink.
He then tried to tell me that it would destroy my Morgan petrol tank and provided numerous other horror stories. I humoured him, filled up and drove off. 15,000miles later, tank is still OK.... My guess is that his comments come from the well publicised problems that both Honda and Ducati had because their bikes used plastic tanks and E5 dissolved them! Or it could be the issue of E5 picking up water since alcohol is hygroscopic and the water rusting steel tanks. And where do you buy classic Riley fuel tanks?

Trouble is with Oz coal, they have to go down under for it.................
Could even be the same coal as the Welsh stuff with the Ozzies digging it out from underneath.

About a year ago I checked & there were no UK ethanol producers, the only one had closed several years ago. So any blended in fuel has to be imported using energy which reduces any perceived benefit. Yes I am aware that much of our crude oil for UK refineries is imported.

Has anyone been looking at the ethanol removal videos on YouTube especially the ones using water? https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ethanol+removal Not something I'm going to try but interesting all the same

By the way this what the Esso website posts on ethanol Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97) is ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland). We would therefore advise anyone who has concerns about the presence of ethanol in petrol to use Synergy Supreme+ – providing they do not fill up in Devon or Cornwall, the Teesside area or Scotland. Political expediency and lack of courage by politicians should be added to what can influence the future.
Politicians make some absurd decisions that fit the the current thoughts and pander to lobby groups.
Take diesel for example. It was the go-to option when mpg and carbon emissions were in the spotlight. The NOx effect was ignored to make diesel appear better for carbon emissions. A few years later it came tothe front and diesels became the devil incarnate.
Electric Car manufacture is being massively pursued and legislated for. Manufacturers are effectively being forced into changing from ICE to EV. There are many negative factors being ignored. Carbon footprint, Lithium production and battery disposal, infrastructure for charging etc.
At some stage when non lithium batteries come into use the old lithium ones will be a problem. Yes there is some reclamation being developed but it could easily go the way of diesel as a good becoming bad.
How many politicians are there who have the guts to speak out about known potential issues ? Toe the line or you are a target!
