I was just thinking about the routine servicing that I might be doing during the coming winter. It might be time to replace the anti-freeze and I usually pour it ...... or chuck it down the ...... or toss it in the ...... but then I wondered what I should be doing with it?
Google tells me it's full of nasty chemicals, then I started feeling really guilty! oops

I emailed our local Council Offices and got the following reply.

"As long as it is from your own home and not a business, then you may take small amounts of coolant to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC). A limit of 5 x 2.5 litre (or equivalent volume) every 6 months is permitted. There is no charge for this item."

I live and learn! innocent

The major constituent is mono ethylene glycol (MEG). This is indeed toxic to humans by ingestion (as it converted to oxalic acid). It should be be disposed of responsibly.

The stabilisers and colour are very minor components.

Kills Wildlife too, keep it away from your domestic pets as it tastes sweet and they will drink it.

Agree with Britmog .... don't leave it uncovered as cats love it but it kills them .... it's the favourite of nasty cat-poisoners .... we currently have a spate of cat poisonings in a town in Scotland that looks like a serial cat-killer using antifreeze. Whoever is doing it wouldn't last five minutes if Mrs Image got hold of them ... it would be a gallon of antifreeze and a funnel time!!
