Sometimes people realise during an overtaking maneouvre that they've misjudged it and need to put their foot down to get out of trouble.....with a speed limiter there may be no response from the engine at the critical moment. I posted earlier: “ISA systems do not automatically apply the brakes, but simply limit engine power preventing the vehicle from accelerating past the current speed limit unless overridden.” To make the move more popular, the ETSC proposes an on/off switch to be included at first, which would allow the system to be overridden by pushing hard on the accelerator. This override would allow motorists to speed up should circumstances need it, and could mean that stricter rules could be introduced in the future. The ETSC also suggests that “if the driver continues to drive above the speed limit for several seconds, the system should sound a warning for a few seconds and display a visual warning until the vehicle is operating at or below the speed limit again.”

The minor routes are the picturesque and involving one's for sure. I try to avoid the A9 when going to Dingwall and either go via Glencoe or Creiff.

It was "...could mean that stricter rules could be introduced in the future" that prompted my comment. I suspect those stricter rules are inevitable.

You may as well take the train (a degrading experience) as drive on a motorway, it's just an uninvolving way of getting from A to B..
Since my retirement I avoid them as much is possible, which means always down here but forced into using them when visiting our two daughters, one in Cambridge and the other in Kent. Luckily our son lives in Cornwall so a lot nicer route.

Back on thread the "boys" will soon find a fix for this speed limiting for sure so I wouldn't raise your blood pressure unnecessarily right now.
Tell me! 6 hours to travel from Cumbria down to the factory on Friday 😠. The M6 was like a car park in both directions! Little wonder I rarely travel south these days.

Yes if I'm going to Plymouth for something I go via Dartmoor the A38 is just like the A9 a pain and boring as a digestive biscuit.. That way I'm guaranteed to see Dartmoor ponies, Dartmoor Blackface sheep, Belted Galloways, Highland cattle and occasionally a deer, so there really isn't a choice is there we are very lucky as it's only a 30minute drive away.

Same thought occurred to me, leaving driver in a very dangerous situation. Am I naive in thinking the legislators must have thought of and covered that scenario though ![[Linked Image]](https://www.series2club.co.uk/new_forum/Smileys/wittsends/nixweiss.gif)

When the car is switched off the system would reset. Can't see a problem myself, especially as there's a very simple solution - don't buy a new car and keep the old one!

I hope that he logic built into these systems is properly designed. It will be a major component in driving, the driver being an even bigger one! Having seen the often poor driving standards these days will there be a problem with switched off drivers? I think there are already too many built in “safety” features/tech in modern cars that lull drivers into doziness mode, thinking the car will save them from their mistakes. Another potential problem will be the interim period where cars with and without limiters share the roads. They overtake at the speed limit but fail to override it when needed. A bit like lorries driving on their limiter and ending up taking miles to overtake or tailgating. I was taught that overtaking must be done safely, cleanly and without delay.
