The first machine I took control of ..hmm..? Not exactly in control as such, was a 350cc AJS in a large wooded area behind a pals house, there was rather a lot to take in as a 14 yr old. The advance and retard lever was thought to be more threatening in its use during attempts to kick start the old thing, than dodging the trees once we finally had it fired up and running. M/cycles were my main interest throughout my teenage years. First car I drove was a BSM Mini, and first car I owned was a Frogeye Sprite in need of floor panels and much else, so it seems I started as I meant to go on buying cars in need of some degree of restoration/repair... Until I bought the Morgan which was fully restored at the time of purchase..!

First car was a Mk1 ford escort bought from the local auction house for £25. It had rotten floors which I naughtily patched over with cornflake boxes, taped down the carpets and sold the car again for £75 with the purchaser very happy having knocked me down from £100. replaced it with a Mk2 escort with a bit less rot.

My first drive would have been dad's old Ford Anglia 100E with side valve engine. We got it to drive in the field when it failed the mot.
First and only set of two wheels was a Honda SS50. Was that a proper motorbike? innocent

Oh yes, I had one of those.I was a Burglar alarm fitter in those days and got travel expenses so bought to minimise my outlay while I saved up for my first MG midget in 1966.

My first drive was a series 2 Land Rover when I was aged about 10. I used to help my dad feed the heifers with hay in the winter, I drove around the fields and dad chucked the bales of hay out from the back. I remember I had to edge forward off the seat in order to push the clutch down due to its position and pressure.... Kind of reminds me of our Roadsters clutch now....

My father Morris Oxford when I was 14. He told me I was old enough to try driving, popped up our private road, turned the car round at the top and got me in the drivers seat. The problem was that he didn’t straighten out the steering. I put my foot down and went straight into a stone wall 😳. The scar to the wall is still there!

That was a baptism by fire John, at least there was only one direction to go thereafter.

Anyone remember these, this was the first jeep (we’ve never had an actual jeep but we called them all that) my dad bought, long before it was cool to have one. At about the age of twelve , it was the first car I drove and this very colour.

In Austria it has usually been the Steyr 15er.

And I have no idea what car I drove as first one. It must have been at about the age of 13...

That’s very like the Porsche red tractors I see about, we’re they one and the same?
By the way our third “jeep” was a G wagen which was actually made in Austria by Steyr,
