I am reminded of this old thread. Included a reply or 2 from Morgan…

Interesting to note that the thread originator more recently bought back into M3W ownership…

Interesting Thread. MMC has not done much other than to dump production of the car that sells so well and try something different, a visual design that was abandoned years ago. Good luck with that!
As to the current owners a warranty is only good if you live within walking distance to a dealer that is willing to work for MMC wage. In the USA that seems almost nonexistent.

Seems like about the only sensible thing they could do to me. The V2 M3W seems to me to be, despite its undeniable visual styling attractions, a fundamentally flawed design that no amount of tweaking could fix at a sensible price.

I honestly don't think that MMC had much choice, there's no way the S&S engine is ever going to be clean enough or powerful enough, so moving to the 3-cylinder engine is a no-brainer really.

You are correct about the pollution regulations, the Xwedge is a pretty raw engine but how magnificent going down the road! Put a Honda V twin up front and it might pass the pollution regs, but sound like a sewing machine.

Using nothing more than logic, flawed or otherwise... As was pointed out in the sad tales contained in the earlier linked M3W thread, such are the advances in communication these days that it is not just as easy to ..err..control situations as it once was..?

I suspect as I suggested in an earlier post that average "expectations" seem to have gone beyond the acceptance of dismissing foibles as just part of the fun..? It seems us BB`s have become a tad too sophisticated in our..err..maturity, or more likely less able or willing to chase the spiders and blow the dust off our tools, perhaps even less so in terms of the purchase price/maintenance/repair costs when marketing seemed to promise heritage and craftsmanship involved in construction..Hmm..?

On the other hand, a rather expensive motor industry sports car icon with a hard won rep for quality engineering over many decades, seemed to begin suffering numerous oil leak issues in the 90`s with their modifications to the original and long in the tooth engine design, which then seemed to amplify somewhat when they converted their engine to water instead of air cooling, and which reportedly created more extensive issues that affected circa 3% of production, some with engine failures that were considered to be uneconomical to repair having covered perhaps less than 30k miles. It seems there were related law suits in the US and that in order to maintain customer confidence, a customer funded extended warranty (insurance ?) scheme was created covering vehicles for engine replacements up to circa 140k miles and/or 15 years whichever was arrived at first... Seems a less than ideal engineering solution but apparently a good "business" solution given the popularity of the BRAND seems unaffected..?

Then of course there is the whole VAG emissions cheating thing to contemplate... ?

In the "old days" it seems a lid could be kept on "business activities" by one means or another, less so now that EVERYONE has access to publish whatever to EVERYONE else, and data capture and transfer becomes increasingly simplified with the passage of time ...?

Seems to me that when Mr Murdoch started beaming Dallas into mud huts to improve his influence and wealth, he opened a Pandoras Box, the likes of which risks all sorts of social upheaval in time, be it the banking crash of 2007/8, the the rise of populist politics, Panama Papers, exponential increase in immigration world wide, Andy`s fun with the young ladies, and only this weekend the start of reporting on the "Pandora" files.... What a surprise... NOT.

M3W could be considered small beer by comparison..? For me hope is that someone somewhere can re-engineer M3W and other Morgan related solutions to nearer match "expectations," just as "old style" Morganeers more suited to the task have been doing for generations..?

Thanks be to Lorne and his work on GoMoG and of course TM for playing a invaluable part in assisting that process..

Just thinking in type as ever.

Seems to me that Pete Larsen already did that with his ACE.

I really don't see how using his driveline design (leaving aside S&S vs. Harley engine) would cost much, if any, more than the way they did it.

Doesn't his design involve a propshaft tunnel running diagonally through the seats? Looks like the passenger seat is only accessible to those with the tiniest of backsides.
