Was greasing the front suspension about two weeks ago, when I noticed a self tapping screw in the tread.didnt look to deep, so I started to unscrew it. BIG mistake. Rush of stale air. Screwed it back in and took the wheel to a friendly tire fitter who repaired the tube.it sits where the unused spare had sat.would never be without a spare.....old fashioned, that's me.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

PS also more important found on the spanner check that both kingpin oiler bolts were hand tight.does anyone know how tight they should be? Thanks.

The second bit was a spin off on glossy tyre dressing in general, and all to do with my personal views on the presentation of used cars in days gone by. Apologies rendered if it appeared to be personal, as it was not intended that way.

It's another personal choice. I much prefer shiny black sidewalls, although some brands make that very difficult by coveting the sidewall with branding and patterns.
Real Arthur Daly tyre paint was more like real paint, thick and almost tarry. Modern detailing gels are nothing like that.

In reality I have travelled hundreds of thousand of miles in my everyday cars since 2004 without spare wheels. I had occasion to use the standard fitted inflator once to get me off the motorway to a Kwick Fit but have got away without needing a spare. I should take the spare off my 4/4 really as the car drives much better without it.

I`ve got both the Mog and the Fiesta with AutoSeal in the tyres - it`s water based so does not mess up the tyre when changed and will permanently seal a puncture on the tread area up to 1 cm. Doesn`t seem to alter the handling. It seals the puncture with Kevlar or similar fibres. Google them for info. If you are MSCC member you get discount.
I`m not on commission or have any links to the company. I've used something very similar on our Yamaha quad bike. Fixed the tyre twice, after being punctured by large nails.

When we bought our Evoque it had a location in the boot well for a spare, but we had to pay JLR extra to buy one, which we did..!
My recently acquired P-car came with goo in a container fitted into the boot/trunk/frunk, though it was out of date and cost £90 to replace with the P specified kit..!
The idea of no spare wheel does not sit well, fortunately My Morgan has one, and at the last age related all round tyre change, fortunately the spare had not ever been used, but replaced it regardless.
