MMC keep reviving potential EV production, but seemingly outside their in house comfort zone they need to rely on third partys for expertise and supply. This is why much vaunted M3W EV production was shelved when they fell out with Frazer-Nash Energy systems.

They need this or they are out of business. I still hope green hydrogen becomes a viable option

I would be very surprised if they can't take some sort of BMW solution.

The electric motor in the Mini E for example has been engineered so it fits in a cradle which uses exactly the same mounting and pickup points for the ICE cars, and the battery packs run down the exhaust/transmission tunnel and out underneath the rear seats in a T shape.

I'm sure they could do something similar with a CX chassis, I'd be amazed if they didn't think of it from day 1 of design, it's not like they didn't know EV was going to be a thing.

Or a bloody good sound system. Imagine EV levels of performance with a selectable soundtrack. The only thing missing would be the vibrations, but as UK roads get worse and worse, that's not likely to be an issue grin2

With you 110% on this John. Hydrogen is the future...current plug in electric technology is only a stepping stone; a bit like the CD was in the music world: ground breaking for a short time but I now use them as bird scarers on my veggie plot!

It might help with the rear traction if they cluster the cells carefully. Porsche are said to be grouping the cells in a stack behind the rear seats for the next Boxster. It is intended to keep the polar moment of inertia similar to a mid engine/box layout which the car is so well known for.

As a matter of interest I thought there was an exemption for small volume builders to remain with ICE/PHEV of some sort? Or was that just in my head?

Hate to think where this leaves TVR.

I can't believe the amount of hype that is now being given to electric cars, given the following:-

1) Range limited by battery capacity and driving conditions
2) Range anxiety for the driver brought about by fear of running out before reaching the next available charging point.
3) If you have to rely on parking in the street and possibly not always outside your own house, how to you do at-home charging?
4) If you live in a block of flats the same applies as in 3 above.
5) Time to take on adaquate recharge is excessive
6) The existing underground cabling is not capable of handling the increased demand created by mass electric car charging.
7) The environmental issues around the disposal of batteries at the end on their life and the cost of replacements
8)The carbon footprint produced when building an electric car is apparently greater than when building an IC engined car.

In view of the above, I agree with John V6 that hydrogen is the only way to go and this should have the most time and money spent on it now rather than waisting time going down the electric route
