Poetic Justice... You only had to look at the guilt on the Max face post race interview to know he'd been playing silly buggers ...

Hamilton was asked why he had not just gone past Verstappen if he saw him slowing in front of him.

"One, it wasn't clear," he said. "Two, I didn't get the information [that he had to let me by]. Then it became apparent he was trying to let me past, which was what he had been asked to do, but before the DRS zone.

"That would mean he would just DRS back past me. That was the tactic. The worst part was the heavy braking that happened at one point. That's when we collided. That was the dangerous part."

Hamilton is referring to the fact that they were approaching what's known as the DRS detection point - where if a driver is within one second of the car in front, he can use the overtaking aid to boost his speed down the following straight. Hamilton was trying to avoid a scenario where Verstappen let him by, only to pass him back with DRS down to Turn One.

The stewards looked into this incident after the race. They gave Verstappen a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points on his licence.

Their reasoning was that Verstappen had been told to give the place back "strategically" and "it was obvious that neither driver wanted to take the lead prior to the DRS detection line".

They added: "The key point was that [Verstappen] then braked suddenly [at 69 bar] and significantly, resulting in 2.4g deceleration… The sudden braking was determined to be erratic and hence the predominant cause of the collision."

IF Verstappen should win the title next week he'll have very little to be proud of IMHO, but I'm sure he's not worried about what anybody thinks. After all, he appears to have little concern for other drivers safety.

That wasn't a race, it was more like watching kids playing computer games.
Verstappen is a big kid who lives in a fantasy bubble where nothing is real or matters, other than winning at any cost.
Unlike computer games F1 is dangerous and if he carries on like this someone is going to get seriously injured, or killed.
He needs to have his Super Licence suspended, IMHO.

Well that was different. I suspect that there will be some serious discussion about on track antics (do it again the viewing figures were amazing......) given the way they conducted themselves. Close inspection of the process for communicating to the teams as well as inside the team might benefit things in the future. Sorry for Ocon after doing such a good job.

Certainly more exciting to watch than pretty much the whole season prior to that race. I do worry that the track is quite dangerous if something does go pear shaped.

We are getting ready for the next one. Blankets, pizza and wine

Said it before but ....... In the absence of ever-present real world penalties of fiery death or life changing injury the only thing stopping all motorsport descending into a stupid 'rubbing is racing' mindset that only belongs in stock-car racing is the penalties system .... and there seems to be a reluctance to use it for fear of offending heavyweight teams and sponsors ..... the days when motor racing fans were knowlegeable and would spend a wet sunday on a muddy bank for the love of the sport are gone ..... F1 is an entertainment, fed to couches throughout the world for a target audience with, at best, a partisan Team fandom (and having just watched Fast and Furious 7' on the same screen expect to see 'spectacle' rather than real racing.) .... FIA are slaves to a monster of their own making.

The races are getting more bizarre as they go on. The sight (and sound) of the F1 race director "negotiating" with one team over the position their car should restart in, was interesting to say the least! Maybe we are just hearing more of these conversations now with greater media access.

The stewards were between a rock and a hard place at this stage of the competition, to intervene too heavily would be seen by many as directly interfering with the ultimate result. But they have just left a situation where both drivers are equal on points, but the driver accused of Dangerous and or unfair driving still "ahead" by virtue of one more win. Leaving no obvious downside to continued aggressive "strategic" driving.

I just hope we get a clean race next week, with a deserving winner. But fear that there will be a few flyingpig flyingpig

It was even funnier when race control "offered" 2nd behind LH given it was actually third as Ocon was also on the track at the pointy end and the team questioned if he had the right idea? I am not certain I understood it correctly but the comment from RB pits to Max later on (just after he did manage to get LH to pass) sounded like he should not have done it given he had already been awarded the penalty and so the point was mute.

I like the comment comparing it to watching the Fast and the Furious. Perhaps they should retitle it the Stroppy and the Princesses, watching Max stomp off the award ceremony without waiting for photo's said it. Top level professionals right?

I do think they were both playing silly a__es though given LH was constantly hanging back on the formation/SC laps and they were both trying to get under each others skin.
