If the small pool of water is towards the back of the engine, check the hose connector between the engine block and the bulkhead. If you look from the nearside you should just be able to see it, although with a bit of difficulty. A torch would be useful. I did have the same problem a few years back and it just need the jubilee clip tightening. This only happened in the winter when the temperature had dropped.

Thanks Neil, that's helpful/encouraging (and within my capabilities).This only manifested itself once the ambient temperature had dropped. Mindful of your suggestion, I thought this should be on my radar. Although the work-in-progress Sifab website doesn't seem to quote prices, an older Mulfab pricelist shows upwards of £600 + VAT for a new one. So a potentially big saving for the sake of carefully tightening a hose clip !
