Hi community, My friend owns a 1980 4/4 and the manifold did tored off. What could be the reason for a damage like this? I drove to car normally and it happens out of nowhere. I think that can be done in every workshop right? Is there a good second market for parts? It looks like that you cannot repair it Regards Michael

No idea why it would have broken like that. Easy to replace, but I don't think that's fixable.
What engine? I thought all the Ford crossflow engine 4/4 had tubular manifolds not cast (and I think they carried on to 82?) The FIAT engine came in for a bit after that, as did the CVH - not sure about them.

Michael I'd say that is unrepairable, what I found interesting is the multiple welds to the downpipe just South of the manifold fracture i.e. it looks as if the whole exhaust system had suffered repeated impacts so the casting has finally let go ?
As Phil said we would need to know the engine type before commenting on availability of a new manifold.

Cast can be welded if it was the last one on earth but I'd guess a replacement one would be far cheaper and easier (a second hand one should be fine as this sort of failure is not exactly common .... the cast manifold will usually outlast the car!
Maybe take the opportunity to fit a tubular manifold ... it will flow better and may even improve performance into the bargain.

Ps .... as others suggest it would ge a good idea to make sure the exhaust/manifold isn't being put under strain by the way it's fitted ... check it all just sits there and isn't being wound into place by one of the mountings thereby stressing the front-pipe/manifold ... there's a lot of leverage in the length of an exhaust system!

It may be worth posting a 'wanted' advert for a cast one, lots of people will have replaced originals with tubular upgrades over the years and may have kept the old cast original

The Crossflow had a tubular, and just seen a photo FB of a 1983 CVH engine, and that's also got a tubular. Maybe a FIAT, but there weren't many of those. I wonder if the original tubular manifold had been replaced by a cast manifold from another vehicle at some stage, hence all the welding on the downpipe.

That is not a Crossflow engine.
The manifold is on the wrong side of the engine!
Its not a Ford bellhousing either so probably a FIAT.
No idea where you could get a replacement from.
Repair? Probably prohibitively expensive as cast iron is not the easiest to weld property - pre heating and slow cooling
You could see if you could get a specialist to make a tubular manifold but you would need to take the car to him

Yeah, looking at the engine mounts and the drivers side (RHD) manifold it seems similar to the FIAT pictures on Librands Fiat Manifold
