Good morning Steve,

An interesting take on the free motion aspect of the coupling and maybe more relevant than mine. I have, as you know, experimented with the amount of free movement from inserts with zero movement to some with 20 degrees plus. My conclusion was that the high torque spike was able to dissipate somewhat before contact was made therefore reducing the impact. Although, as you say, maybe we are looking at a longer swing of the hammer before it lands causing greater impact. I don't think this will be resolved without the use of a sophisticated test bed trial which none of us can afford so "feel" is all we have to go on. I don't have a problem with people using the MMC rubbers (they are quieter than mine) but I will continue to experiment and improve if I can. One of my problems is that the cars leave here with a quiet drive train and a happy customer and I do not get to experience the shrunken roller problem because people fix it with the MMC rollers without coming back to me - which I quite understand - Lancaster is a long way from everywhere!

My first experience of a M3W was a hired car from the factory and when I had got it back to our holiday home I was so shocked at the drive banging if you tried to pull away with less than 2500 revs on the clock that I called the factory. I told them I thought something was broken and they should send a transporter to recover it. They said not to worry - they are all like that! My car had the same problems and that is where we came in, as the saying goes.

My first experiences with Centa couplings were fraught with spline failures (including my own car) which is why I developed the alloy steel hub and before too long I insisted that all of my upgrades used the alloy hub. I don't think any of us know how many original hubs have failed but I do know that Krazy Horse had a lot of wrecked ones under the bench! 4% of the 2500 cars produced only comes to 100 failures and I would not be surprised if the figure was higher than that. I can't imagine that MMC will ever publish the figures so we will have to keep on guessing.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Phil.

Phil, I do like the way your Centa Rubbers allow for a much more smooth take off and as such will prolong the life of the associated components.

But another factor that I have not seen mentioned is driving styles, for instance, always downshifting to slow the vehicle. I cannot help but think that is adding to the problem. For me I believe brakes are less expensive and certainly easier to access.

Another factor is power shifting, getting the rear whel spinning when shifting, and the much greater impact that causes.

Just a couple of thoughts that might have some bearing on Centa Rubber longevity.

Just a reminder that if you are changing Bleazey Polybush Centa 'rubbers' to the standard MMC rubber ones, they may need trimming to length.

As you can see, the MMC ones are around 3-4mm longer than the Bleazey ones. I trimmed them to around 59.5mm length which makes them snug in the Centa while still allowing them a slight amount of movement.

My Bleazey conversion was fitted in August 2019 and I have been told that later ones can accept the standard rubber rollers without modification. I'm sure that Phil can let us know when this changeover happened.

Andy - The MMC rollers do not need to be trimmed for the later upgraded Centa's.
In fact the MMC rollers are a more snug fit than the PB rollers from new in the later Centa's.
The PB roller you show is the original Brown coloured type which are no longer manufactured by Phil. I would see what the difference is between this brown and the later black speckled roller in dimensions but we no longer have any of the new PB rollers in stock as all have been returned to Phil as we only fit/supply MMC rollers now.

I waited too long, the insurance immediately accepted the 80 km to bring home.

I took the opportunity to rotate the shaft in the centa housing and I heard again a small metallic noise during rotation, I guessed again that the clutch disc springs were broken.

this makes the second clutch disc with a broken spring although the thickness of the clutch disc is close to new, I think there is a quality defect, I still have the original clutch which is of different design and is still in good condition with 60,000 km, it will be ridden for the third time.

I would also like to point out that the starter crown is not eternal I have already replaced it once with the starter, the machining of the teeth and the quality of the metal is not the best, I am still looking for a 112 tooth Mazda crown or others to repair my old flywheel.

The previous flywheel had broken teeth.

the new flywheel was reassembled with a new MMC starter, the quality of the teeth is less than a toothing made of XC48 steel with heat treatment fitted with the cast iron flywheel.
the second clutch disc in perfect condition broke a spring and lasted as long as the centa rubbers.

I'm going to reassemble my first 2013 clutch disc which must have 60,000 km

I understand that owners of three wheels separate from this vehicle, it avoids prozac or valium.
Personally, I've been waiting for the answer for more than 2 1/2 months for my frame resoldered in six different places which had already been replaced in 2015.

I will go to China to find clutch disc springs to repair.

I can understand that spare parts are expensive but you need quality.
