britmog - My car is a hot wire system also.
MOG615 - There is no immobilizer on my car, I had it removed 10 years ago due to trouble. All comments are useful.
sospan - my car is not a gems car.
Ivormog - everything on the ignition circuit except the starter motor is dead.
Ray - didn't know this.

Thank you all for your useful comments. I am now going to try your suggestions out and will let you know how I get on.

I suggest that you check the connection between the ignition and the main harness ,this is a white two cable connector beneath the steering wheel
they are made of a material that is liable to corrode over time.I had very similar problems to yours and investigated by two very competent auto electricians
with no success and finally found after car stopped abruptly at midnight in the country -it was then easy to see the flashing of the bad connection and ten minutes
to put a basic connector in.
good luck

On my hotwire plus 8 I did experience a situation where it would not start and there was no power to the ecu, fuel, and ignition. The problem was down to a bad connection - a white plug and socket, connecting the Morgan and Land Rover harnesses. under the dash, to the far right hand side, it was a nine way plug and socket, although not all ways were populated
A spray with contact cleaner and all has been well.

I once experienced my non starting +8 with the ignition circuits being dead, my problem was the fuse in the ECU feed wire. On my +8 in the battery area by the rear axle where the back of the cut off switch is there is a wire that supplies power to the ECU even when the cut off switch is off. This wire has a fuse and in my case that fuse had blown and the ECU was not receiving power, I reiterate this was on my +8 before I am informed this wire is not normal!!!!!

Dave, on some 3.9’s there is a little known of inline fuse buried high up behind the glove box fitted to some but not all cars.
Worth a check.

Hunting for a mystery rattle that apparently comes from behind the dash of my Roadster (but which isn't covered in the first 40 or so pages of "The Guide To Morgan Rattles") I came across this item which is the Inertia Switch. If like me, you have/had no idea about the Inertia Switch, this is what it looks like:

.....and here's an excellent little video that explains how it works https://youtu.be/MTwkQYC1viY

(Source of the rattle not yet confirmed.....).

Pleased to report that that particular rattle has gone. Means I can hear the other rattles better now.

Thanks for the pointer Chris, solved a sudden cut out for me after checking the inertia switch. This is mine ( the white connector) on the Gems 2003, if anyone is curious/trouble shooting. It is perishing, so replacement imminent. Looks like its had a bodge job anyway, or maybe thats the only bits left in the box that week at MMC? doh

Either way, TM was my go to to find the answer, so thanks chaps, keep it up cheers

If it’s the Hotwire car there are 2 immobilisers one is the green box 10AS unit which is operated by the key fob, the other is the “Spider” immobiliser which recognises the key itself, this unit interrupts the supply to the ignition system, can’t remember if it’s the coil or amplifier , these are very prone to dry soldered joints a simple bypass plug can be purchased online for around £10, Check the main & fuel pump relays are working ok and you have voltage to the coil, if you have to replace one of the relays make the New one is fitted with a diode.
If you are still having problems , there are 2 resisters in the loom to check
