Where do you place the lifting pads on your Morgan when using a two poster car hoist

Under the broad part of chassis at the front just behind engine mounts and at outer ends of square section cross member at rear. It may vary if distance between front and rear mount options on your two post lift varies greatly from my Automotech scissor lift though.

Thanks Richard &Rog with such a light chassis you don’t want to get it wrong and we are a long way from spare parts

Hi Colin,

I noticed in another thread you have a 2019 Plus 4, you must have ordered it about the same time I was looking but then used my funds towards purchasing a house for my son to live in with my Grand daughter that was born 25th July 2019. By the time I got back into the workforce Morgan's had stopped being made and I went for a Frontline style MGB form Sydney.

Which hoist are you thinking of getting? My roof is not high enough for a traditional hoist so I am thinking of getting this one.

Hi Chris yes that was one of my choices but I am leaning towards the low headroom two poster from aussicarhoists it has the advantage of giving access to all of the underside of the car plus a full 1.2m lift (0.2m more than a sizer type hoist) and is suitable for my 2.4m headroom garage. I purchased the car from the original owner in August last year it was first registered in may 2019.

Regards
Colin

Hi Colin,

That looks like a good option. I noticed they also have scissor car lifts that look almost identical to the link I posted. I like the 1.2 2 post hoist, you can get around under the car easier to access the gearbox etc. if you need to change the clutch. I am thinking more for my son than me, I have done a fair bit of work on cars just on jack stands and hoping with a remanufactured MGB to not have to do anything but take the wheels off every 6 months and give them a good clean while the engine oil is draining. However my son is a mechanic and wants to do some work at home but his place only has a 2.4M ceiling. His garage is only 6 metres by 7metres long but he is renting off me and I am trying to get an extension approved to make it a 10 metre long garage, unfortunately I can't go much higher due to being close to the fence and planning rules being painful.

Thanks Chris

Thanks, I was looking at those before as well, personally I like them more because they can be moved out of the way and stored, it would suit me more at my place. But if I can get a garage extension at my sons house then a low fixed system might be better for him.

I don't know the availability of these lifts in Australia or if there is an equivalent but in my 42 years ownership of Morgans this is the best tool I have purchased. Not only great for the Morgans as easy access from all four sides but good height to work under plus can be rolled around the garage under my 3 moggies. Easily portable no hydraulics just a power drill to operate, used for many other purposes such as a work bench, picnic bench even used it as a solid base to decorate from have taken it to the track as it comes apart without fuss:
