That's a reminder to upgrade mine Dave. They have had one upgrade already with Caterham arms (stronger springs and locking out option) and wipers themselves since I needed black. Unfortunately Peter is unable to offer the sprung style in black though. Westfield used to offer but now defunct frown

I have but painting is not practical for such a complex part.

Here you go Dave to picture link. Note though they attach splined spindles with spring clip rather than the wedge type MMC use. Matching wipers themselves are the S3 Caterham ones here. As mentioned I'm still looking for a set of sprung ones in black though.

Beware of water collecting in the horn snail, they are very exposed on a Mog

Cheers Craig, as per my video that’s where I'm planning to mount mine too.

The Lucas Windones are very large compared with modern horns, so I need all the space I can get.

Here's a couple of shots of where they were mounted on a Mk1 Ford Zodiac to give you an idea of size, this location worked really well as the tuneful twin Windtone hi/low output was reflected off the underside of the bonnet and the engine bay effectively became a sound box.

I was always taught Windtones can be mounted in any orientation, but the dome shaped bells should always face each other as above, apparently this ensures the correct separation distance between the horns to give the perfect tone, how true that is I don’t know? What I am sure of is the mounts need to be heavy duty, not only to support the considerable weight of the Windtones but also to avoid nasty sounds and bracket fracturing, all electric horns work on vibration so you need good strong mounts to avoid the dreaded buzz and broken mounts.

Get it right and in my opinion, very little this side of a period Cadillac or Chrysler four tone horn beats the sound of a pair of Hi/Low tone Lucas Windtones sounding off in perfect unison, modern horns all too often emit a harsh coarse sound that’s unpleasant and stress inducing, by contrast a set of Windtones give off a tuneful friendly sound that still alerts other drivers when you need them to as they're also surprisingly loud.

Best of all the softer more rounded sounding Windtones immediately transport you to a carefree bygone age, a quick 'toot, toot' from these horns as you pass pedestrians never fails to raise a smile and a wave, this is so much more in keeping with a Morgan than the typical road rage inducing screech from a modern horn setup that's more likely to provoke a shaking fist and angry gimace from the same passers-by.

swmbo

Its just my opinion but if you're going to drive a classic, you've got to run Windtones, or better still a four tone setup off a 50's Yank. Just as my Marchal fog lamps and yellow forward lighting deliver vintage pleasures to the eye, a set of Windtones play an the essential audio role for ones ears.

The Devil most definitely is in the detail cloud9

We get two on Roadsters Dave although they now reside on my Land Rover giving a very grown up sound. Have one of these dual tone airhorns now on Morton.

Very compact single unit with integral compressor. Sad to say it gets used rather a lot as yet another driver fails to see the car.

I had a hobby refurbishing vintage horns both interrupter and awoogah types. Small selection below.

I still have a few left including the deep sounding original Lucas Alto, similar to one on the right.

ETA: note the wiring for second horn on your +4 will already be there. Look for light green/white (live +ve) and purple/black (switched ground).

Wow, they look lovely love

Although I'm not an "awoogah" man I do believe the sound and tone of a horn setup is very important, it should match the car as it's very much part of a vehicle's character and personality.

Thankfully I found the second wire many months ago when fitting my satin black powder coated grill, so you'll be pleased to know there's no need to hand hold me through another 20 page thread this time Richard laugh2

Merry Christmas to you, and all the super helpful people in the Morgan community thumbs
