I rebuilt a Renault 6 engine in the kitchen when I lived with my Mum and Dad about 50 years ago. My Dad was very supportive, my Mum less so!

don't mention illicit use of the dishwasher.... In c.1974 my wife caught me while I was in the shower wearing only her shower cap and using wet & dry paper to smooth a 5ft long fibreglass fuselage for an R/C model glider. We are still married. ^^ As a lad, my brother and I used to test model boats in the bath, the IC powered ones didn't go down well with mum

Jon, That depends on how good your oven is? Or how long your wife will be out of the house? LoL. Cheers John. ... yes, don't mention illicit use of the dishwasher too I don't know why, perhaps it is the dishwasher detergent, but aluminium engine parts come out with a nice light almost anodised finish. I won't tell how I know

No it's quite safe so long as you allow enough time for the washer to finish before the SWMBO comes home. LoL. I once had a alloy barrel in the oven to remove the cylinder liner and unfortunately the owner of the barrel had just painted it with some barrel paint without puting it through a heat cycle. So I left the barrel in the oven and went to the shed to get the liner removal tools, well when I returned I could not see a lot because of the smoke. I managed to get the liner out OK but the room was still halve full of smoke when my wife returned!!! After this I had to "invest" (a term you should always use when buying tools!!!) in a large propane torch which did prove a good buy. Cheers John.
