I'm more of a 'slap on the POR15' kind of guy. Easy to re-apply and patch in any chips.....

Surely the "multitude of sins" should have been removed during preparation before paint applied. Any paint finish will fail if it isn't.

Maybe I've just been lucky with my local powder coat company (with shot blasters next door) but had no issues on a wide variety of parts over the years. I will admit that a heavy strike can chip though but very localised damage easily touched up.

Yep, the 'sins' I was refering too are the 'missed' stone chip, which allows water to creep in, no chance of drying out, and it rusts away behind the surface - the first indication you get is when the whole powdercoat peels off.

I remember watching an epsiode of Wheeler Dealers where the TVR powdercoated chassis was in a terrible state.

But give them advance warning of the issue and that you want it rectified on that visit

Powder coating, done correctly, is very robust and should last for years. Chipping of the coating can be a minor issue, but the Morgan has an advantage in that much of it is visible and can be detected easily.

Modern paint coatings are almost as robust as powder coating and less prone to chipping. A top restoration company I know moved away from powder coating to painting of suspension components for this reason. They restored my car 15 years ago and all the suspension components are still like new, as is the chassis. Had the car rusted in a couple of weeks they would have collected it and rectified the problem.

The suspension on the Super Three is on view, which makes it even more important that it looks good as well as being protected.

It will be interesting to see if the new management will address these issues more successfully than the recently departed Steve Morris managed with the M3W.

The dealership salesman has told me he will mention the rust to Morgan. I hope he does.

Though anyone looking to collect their Super 3 soon, please ask the dealership to add anti-corrosion before you collect the car. The front wishbone paint is like chalk paint. I’ve only really driven my car 3 times! I’m guessing all the stone chips and rust was the aftermath of my long drive home from the dealership.

Once again Morgan Build Quality comes shining through.
You would have thought they had learned their lesson with the M3W.
When I had my M3W the front suspension components were like a snake shedding it's skin.
Given the cost of these vehicles, this is the last thing you would expect and obviously a big disappointment to the new (and should be proud) owners.

I agree. The ineviatble brittleness due to baking in the powder coating process makes it less suitable to under areas continually battered by road grit. I would imagine that suitable air dried paint finishes coupled with matching primer onto a prepared surface are going to fair far better. It appears MMC have missed out the last two!

I think I've mentioned it before, but I remember a visit to the factory in the mid 80's just afer MMC had purchased their first powder coater. They were very impressed and gave me and my Grandad a 'display'. I wouldn't be that surprised if they're still using the same one.........
