I thought Chesil went pop with Westfield last year ?
You are right, up to a point…..
‘In June 2022 Westfield went into administration and ceased trading. In September 2022 Westfield was bought out of insolvency by Westfield Chesil Ltd.” [from Wikipedia]
I was looking at doing a build with Chesill the summer before last. Went to their factory, got a tour of the place and how production works etc. This was followed by a test drive.
All in all I had a massive smile on my face and was ready to seriously look at getting a build slot. However, after getting home I jumped straight into my 4/4. The clincher for me was the fact the MOG had a ton more craftsmanship involved in making it. that and the top in it's lowest stowed position had the metal frame eating into my shoulder. But the overall experience was simply amazing. Provided all the smiles per mile my 4/4 does in a different wrapper, be it a plastic fantastic one. If I was coming from a M3W I would be driving a Chesil today.
However, with that said, for the price, it's a very attractive option. IIRC the base engine was a 1.6 with the option to got to either a 1.8 or 2.0. A 1.8 with a few key options brought the price to about £46k. All considering, not bad at all.
The Boxter based 356 inspired soft top is an interesting concept that I did not know of, thanks for posting the pic Richard, and yet again adding to my education..
Thanks also Perry for providing an insight relative to your Chesil Speedster and Morgan 4/4 comparisons, interesting indeed.
My current thinking is that before I would consider the electric version of any "sports" car, use of the ICE engine would have to be prohibited by law..

Yep, me too. Probably any car, let alone sports car.
I've got all my eggs in the 'synthetic fuel' basket, but will likely be dead by the time the electric supply and charging infrastructure is in a situation where banning ICE is possible.

Glad you like it George. First saw it in the flesh at Lavenham car show 2020.
Not many cars built from donors have full entertainment centre including Satnav and electric soft top.

That's really impressive. Thanks for sharing Richard.
Get a slightly younger donor and you are giving a Plus Four/Six a bit of a run for it's money in some cases. Maybe not life long Morgan lovers but certainly people new to Morgan and wanting something unique from the bread vans we all truck around in day to day.
Loads of things to like. The 986 platform is a great one. The interior being Pork based brings lots of benefits The styling and additional elements like the red buttresses etc I would imagine it goes and handles well unless it has put on a lot of weight I am guessing you can have the grimy bits serviced at a Pork specialist You have the electric nanny's for wet roads and scary moments I am guessing the roof seals might even work, ha ha. Parts are going to available
There is a lot to like.
I would probably take off some of the glitz (bonnet straps, gold lettering etc) as I love the shape but that's just me.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
Speaking of using donor cars to build replicas; some poor guy lost his Toyota MR Coupé "Ferrari" after a lot of work.
Quote
The Guardia di Finanza of the Provincial Command of Asti seized a 'fake' Ferrari F430, 'handcrafted'. It was being driven by a 26-year-old man from Asti, who was stopped by a patrol unit of the Asti Economic and Financial Police during a territorial control service.
The car, following the checks carried out, turned out to be a Toyota MR Coupé, whose bodywork and exterior accessories had been transformed to make it look like a Ferrari F430.
Badges, logos and original mechanical parts of the manufacturer, such as rims, brake callipers, front and rear bonnet, wheel arches and steering wheel were replaced with products apparently entirely identical to those of the famous Prancing Horse sports model produced from 2004 to 2009 with 'Pininfarina' design by the prestigious luxury car factory in Maranello.
The counterfeiting was confirmed by the experts who intervened after the car was impounded. The car was therefore confiscated by the Guardia di Finanza and the owner reported to the public prosecutor's office in Asti for the unauthorised use of registered trademarks.
I immagine he could also be in trouble for unapproved alterations to the original donor car.
