If anyone is experiencing a stiff rotary heater control knob, mine has been really hard to turn lately on my 2016. 4/4 Sport. So stiff had to use two hands before setting off today.

So this afternoon on my return, I decided to drop the under tray and dashboard to see what’s going on. I could see the bolt going through the two plates controlling the heater control knob was quite tight. I loosened the locking nut right off and sprayed WD40 silicone until it worked free again, applied a little grease and tightened back up, but not so tight this time. job done.

So if anyone else has the same problem turning the heater it’s any easy fix if I can do it.

Good fix Craig thumbs Just be aware that loosening the pivot bolt may allow the detent ball to escape as that is sandwiched between the two plates. This assumes there is a detent there in the first place. My car has never had one.

Question for Craig. In the first picture, there is a black wire leading down into a long slot shielded by a metal cover. What is this?

I'm asking because my GDI has the slot cut in the panel, but no wire or metal cover.

Hi Dave, the wire goes to the LED foot-well lighting.
