I had an S2000 from 2002 to 2005, before my first Roadster. It was a very good car. In the end it was a bit annoying that it only had real power from 6000 rpm on. When I wasn't familiar with it, I spun 180 degrees on the throttle on a straight wet road, 80% LSD. That didn't happen to me a second time, I was doing a training. A car that requires full concentration and is then also a lot of fun. Today I would still like to have it. But I can't have everything...

I like the idea of that, or its Austin Healey counterpart the Sebring SX.

I don't think the auto suits the car at all, perhaps that was part of the problem ?

I came from the other direction - went for a test drive expecting to be underwhelmed by the engine and ended up buying the car. I've driven loads of MX5's and it was the additional performance of the Abarth and the gorgeous exhaust note that was a pleasant surprise. I've since had mine re-mapped and it's "just right"

The fact that it's rarity makes it a bit different was also a positive for me.

We hired a full blown Mustang convertible whilst we were in the US last year from Avis with very little miles on the clock.Fantastic noise and power, but oh dear, abysmal build quality, brakes and road holding, over there they are very reasonably priced though.

I have a pal who wishes to sell his restored and freshly re-sprayed TR5 which he has owned for many years...

I suspect that a speed boat analogy works well enough with a Tesla in terms of possible initial excitement of a less than reasonably well researched new experience having the potential to drop off rapidly..? The milk float comparison, slightly less so, given the somewhat crazy acceleration figures of EV`s primarily designed as average family transport...? While my good lady enjoys driving my tin top, I suspect rapid acceleration is not high up on her list of priorities when deciding to buy into the idea of EV..

As I typed, I see my good lady`s vehicular choice as no more than as a personal transportation device that perhaps fits better with current and perhaps future political influences. My own choices seem rather obviously based on a slightly different set of priorities.

In terms of there being plenty of EV options available and the adoption of personal choices, the interweb can supply enough "proof" to convince us that any less than wise path to follow might be perfect for us.. ?

In terms of Tesla engineering, I found this one of many EV and Tesla vids (URL below) to be rather interesting, and if in anywhere near accurate, I suspect and hope that a Tesla might just be ahead of JLR in the reliability and customer service stakes, given our personal JLR experience, and that of others expressed on this forum..... Time will tell.

As for the vid, I stuck with it through the intro, and was glad I did, to then listen to the more detailed insight on the evolution of EV design and manufacturing processes over the years. I did allow for the possibility of a percentage of American bias in the thinking, in that if anyone might be equipped to control aspects of the interweb, thus the thinking of the masses, my guess is that Musk seems likely to have far more options in that regard than most.

We rented a Mustang convertible in 2015 on the US north-east coast and in 2017 in Washington State. The first was a Roadster like V6 naturally aspirated engine and the second was, I think a 2.3 litre, turbo 4 cylinder. The 4 cylinder drove much better and with more torque. But both had a very decent build quality. I was very pleasantly surprised, we drove it for many kilometres. A nice cruiser that fits the USA very well. In my country, it would be a little too less sporty for my weekend B-road adventures.

The surprising thing for me about this thread is that no one ( on a speed read) has suggeted an F type. I had one before the current toy and with one exception it was a brilliant true sports car. The one exception was the seat which at that time hasd a narrow centre and hard edges which did not go well with my motorbike injured hip.

You can now buy a 2 year old 550 bhp SVR version with a blown V8 for around £60k. And it is both a pretty car and reasonably economic to run.

Any views on why the F type is so ignored in general?

From my perspective - way outside any budget I have for a car (unless I win the lottery or get a large PBond win!) and even then I'm not likely to spend that sort of money on a car :-)

And me! I'm probably going to spend about £4 to 5K on my next car (MGB GT if all goes to plan).

Amazed at the prices cars are going for scrap though - my Mrs has just got a company car. We were thinking of selling her 200K mile, 2007 Hyundai i30 for a couple of hundred quid, but we've been paid £400 by a recycler! Saves all the hassle and comeback when something breaks 200yds from the house. They've even offered me £350 for my 21yr old Corsa....
