The BBC has axed the latest series of Top Gear after a horror crash that left presenter Andrew Flintoff 'lucky to be alive' - with the presenter thought to be unlikely to return to the show.
The 45-year-old has reportedly said he's unable to continue in his role as host after he was involved in an accident while filming at the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey on December 13, last year.
He was airlifted to hospital with facial injuries and broken ribs after the car he was driving - an open-topped three-wheel 130mph Morgan Super 3 which doesn't have air bags - flipped over.

Not sure how long an air bag is going to be effective for in an open-top sports car.

Very sad for everyone involved but I'm guessing he wasn't wearing a crash helmet? If they were hooning around in the Super3 for the cameras then this should have been a minimum safety provision. Helmets were being worn. I suspect the weather was a contributing factor as it was below zero Celsius on the day of the accident in December.
