We're still running on petrol. Although we had the EV Charger fitted last Saturday, Octopus haven't yet managed to swap our tariff over to one that makes it financially viable to charge.
Beforehand I'd found Octopus really effective, but in the last three days they've charged me double for March's electric (soon rectified after they finally accepted that my calculations were correct, and theirs were wrong) and can't give me any definite time for the Tariff switch - so far I have been told 'usually 48hrs' (after 72hrs), 'it should be soon' and more honestly 'I haven't a clue'.

We bought a BMW PHEV 18months ago as a second car for the wife. Didn’t take too long for us to realise that with a 14-20 mile electric range we should have gone full electric as it’s charged off solar or Octopus Go night rate @ 12p/kWh and we became ICE phobic when driving it. Yesterday we did a straight swap for a Mini Electric Cooper S level 2. Ok it’s smaller but the size and approx 100m range is plenty for us. It’s a great car to drive, comfortable, quick, nimble and VED free (for now) whereas we were paying £510 per year for the PHEV. One observation on electric cars regarding acceleration, in an ICE it takes a bit of determination and some skill get to stated 0-60 times, but in an EV  can do it which is a bit scary.

Now everything is set up and she's charging at home and work every day, I can't really see any advantage in a Hybrid over an economic petrol engined equivalent. Advantages over a full EV are access to 1000's of petrol stations and a 3 minute fill up, although there would be extra savings with the full EV (unless you use a public charger).

Could buy a petrol version and a nearly new Zoe for £12k and still save £000’s over the new EV model.

Reading this thread and the Mail report makes me so glad I exited EV ownership when I did: in July 2022 I sold the Tesla M3 LR for about £3,000 less than I paid for it 12 months previously and with 10,000 miles run.
I begin to think that the motoring public has begun to realise that the claim, made by many, that "EVs are the answer" has no clothes.
EVs are an option as an urban/suburban runabout for those with off street parking and for people who view cars as just another appliance.
But for petrolheads who enjoy driving, for those that pound the motorways on company business and those that want to tour the country away from the urban sprawl they are not an option.
The Net Zero apostles thought the motorists would be easy converts, but they are not. There are many, many other realistic/viable targets, but they are much harder and much more costly to convert.
Here Endeth the Lesson.

Here Endeth the Lesson. You just have to read the comments section on any EV review to see that many car owners seem to think the existance of EVs is some kind of personal insult. But we all have to remember there is no "Planet B"; EVs are still very early in their evolution; most of us reading this have huge and embarrassing carbon footprints compared to our grandparents' generation. The current availability of 2nd hand EVs is an opportunity for some of us: I was just looking at some newer IBM i3's whose realistic 100 mile range would be good enough for our 2nd car needs (20-50 miles per day for a community NHS role). But we all have to remember there is no "Planet B"; Agreed. If we all went vegan, we'd reduce global emissions by 15% (considerably more than if we all swapped to EV - especially once you factor in the carbon cost of steel production and the industrial manufacture of cars), So, as a vegan of 20+ years, who only holidays in the UK, has never bought a new vehicle (driving round in a 20yr car and a 50yr old car) and uses a 100% renewable electricity supplier, I consider myself fairly carbon zero. You may have to start calling me Greta
