We did one last year on the humungous Iona. We went up the Fjords etc.
It was our first cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The cabin was super comfy, staff were great and there was plenty of food on tap whenever we wanted.
Apart from embarking and disembarking It felt no more crowded than any other conventional hotel.
As for emissions. I believe all new ships are running on gas? I dont know the figures or facts but its claimed they are much cleaner than diesel.

Bonesie, our cruise over new year is on Iona. One reason we chose it is the range of dining options. The facilities look good too so we can find the ones to suit. Having done several cruises we tend to be able to avoid the wrong ones!
Drive to Southampton the day before departure for overnight stay in a hotel with cruise parking packages. Park, hand over the keys and chill. No t minute hassle, rushing, hanging about like cattle.

Trying this option for a change in August.
