There are no political affiliations allowed at Parish Council level and I believe at County/ District level there should be none. All should stand as themselves and work for the community. I accept that people need to be paid, but this should come directly from central Government, not any political entity.

There are times when I wonder if party politics is an outmoded concept, and all those representing the people should be independent. Recent party politics in the USA have reinforced my view.

The recent US debt ceiling discussions have been very polarising, demonstrating the extent of the divide between the 2 main political parties, thank goodness we are no where near that level of social and political divide. The extremism on both the left and the right are not healthy to society and social integration. and cohesiveness, where e.g. the right to bear arms overrides the most fundamental right to basic public safety.

We have a local town council,an east hants council and a hampshire county council.
This means that whatever you want to look into or change or investigate is covered by none of them. They all say the other two are responsible. Then add in the environment agency who can refer you back to the three council levels and one could spend one's entire time chasing one's tail.
And then there's our local MP who can send you a very well phrased reply completely absolving him of any responsibility to his public.

The one undeniable truth with politicians when trying to gain your vote is that they will overpromise, and once they have your vote they'll under deliver.

Local administration should just be that local and not really used as a tool for national politics

National level politics IMHO should be Parliament has X number of seats, when voting you vote for the party of your favour (not an individual for an area) and then when all the votes are in the split of the vote is distributed amongst the seats in Parliament, there by it would without any of this second past the post nonsense proper % representation of the will of the people and not differing areas gaining seats by disproportional votes.

We didn't get to vote in the recent local elections here in North Dorset for some reason, maybe they'ed drowned in sewage overflow? .
