So, my 2018 M3W had its MoT today. 30 mile journey home no problems but as I pull in to the drive the revs start to drop and engine cuts out. It won't restart. It turns over fine but not firing up at all. Plenty of fuel in the tank. No previous engine issues. 3,900 miles Only.

So what is the sequence of checks? Is it the dreaded fuel pump?

Any help much appreciated! thumbs

Can you hear the fuel pump running when you switch the ignition on? If not check the cutout switch - a black rubber button to the right hand side of the back of the oil tank.

I checked the switch, no obvious click or depression when pushed.
I'm really not sure if I can hear the fuel pump behind me. I can here something at the front.

So, just looking at it now everything has cooled.
Fuel pump fuse OK!
Opened the boot and nothing obviously loose.
Turn ignition key and I can hear the pump energising. Engine now starts.
Switch off and on again, engine starts but idles for a few seconds then stops.
Ignition on again and no pump energising.

So is it definitely the pump or is there anything else to rule out before I start ordering the bits?

All the symptoms of a bad fuel pump, if you have a fuel pressure gauge there is a schrader test port on top of the engine, it should be a steady 58psi.

+1 and I'll add that the 58psi needs to be with the engine running. With the ignition on but engine off, the pump runs for a few seconds and may appear to come up to pressure but with the engine running and a dodgy pump it can't maintain the pressure hence the cutting out.
Have been there, and have just bought another pump as a spare.

99% the pump but the pressure check Rog suggested would confirm it. I would change the pump for the Walbro anyway

Have you replaced the fuse? A fuse can look OK and test OK, but can develop a hairline crack which will open up under load.
