Hi Johncc thanks for the input.. I would advise that you keep a good watch on the nearside header tank level, with both rad failures I noticed a very small initial drop in the nearside header tank over several months, zero sign of a water leak or overheating. The nearside header tank then showed a slightly larger drop of level, still no water leaks obvious. Topped up and 250 - 500 miles later a slow drip from the nearside front of the radiator and a near empty nearside header tank. As you say the header tank fill level is important, as the header tanks are aluminium with no sight gauge, I made up a short section of plastic strip that I keep in the car so I can dip into the header tank ( when engine cold ) and check the level is to the outer revised mid tank level..

Apparently if you fill in the small reservoir nothing will go in the radiator.
It needs to be filled under pressure.

How do you fill under pressure, is there a magic wand or something.......Em

I dont know , the garage told me that when i wanted to add some coolant when the radiator was leaking.

I guess that like the Boxster they use a container that connects to the header tank in place of the cap and can be pressurised by an external vac pump,

The filling device 9696, bleeding adapter 9696/1 and vacuum pump VAS 6096/2 are
required for proper bleeding. All shut-off valves of the thermal management system must
be open during the bleeding procedure. This takes place via a corresponding guided
procedure defined in the PIWIS Tester

I believe that if you still have coolant fluid showing in the header tank then its as per normal to top up to the given level ( also consider that the level should not have dropped, so something is going on ). The issue of bleeding will occur when the header tank empties completely and air has been drawn into the system.. Most likely at that point it needs specialist kit to bleed the air out??. I dont have any first hand info about bleeding the coolant system, but when I get to speak to our dealer I will certainly be asking. To my knowledge there is nothing in the owners handbook that highlights this.

Come on Peter were talking normal use and top up . If you have a problem and loosing water it needs to be investigated. Em
