Perhaps we should start our own thread. Power to the people! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/07/16/citizen_smith.jpeg)
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Just getting back to Caterham for a second! I was back at FoS on Sunday which, bizarrely, seemed a lot quieter than Thursday. No crowds around the "Project V" car this time so I got some better pictures. They also had an Electric "S even" on the stand so I snapped that and found the other one in the "First Glance" paddock. ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/07/17/20230716_115941.md.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/07/17/20230716_115854.md.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/07/17/20230716_151456.md.jpeg) Nothing about them appeals to me. I can't imagine ever owning an EV, the only thing that remotely whetted my appetite was this bonkers creation from Renault, but I think it's just a one-off! ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/07/17/20230716_120216.md.jpeg) There was a lot of talk about carbon neutral fuel (CNF) this weekend, which several teams are now uisng. Sebastian Vettel ended the weekend with a promotion for his "Race Without a Trace" campaign. I see The Automobile magazine has a piece about it this month, now I'm back from Goodwood I'll take time to read it. CNF looks like a more feasible proposition than EVs to me.

I think Caterham is absolutely heading in the right direction. They are now building the concepts for the batteries of tomorrow. Toyota has announced a completely new generation of dry batteries for 2027 to launch, half the size and half the weight, with a very long range and a charging time of just a few minutes. The time of these absolutely stupid SUVs that weigh 3.6 tons to be able to drive 380 km will be over sooner than one can look, at least that is my perception. We will see new opportunities for the niche manufacturers. The affordable bread and butter EV will come from China. But brands like Caterham and maybe Morgan, if their cost structure doesn't fall to their feet, can serve a market of individualists. People who will still enjoy driving tomorrow. BTW, with all the digital development, it shouldn't be that difficult to program a small electric motor to simulate the character of an ICE in combination with a five-speed gearbox, a mechanical clutch and a nice sound from the loudspeaker. I assume this Toyota invention is what you mention https://www.drive.com.au/news/toyota-patents-manual-transmission-for-electric-cars/

Things were a bit quieter over at Pembleton, and much more my cup of tea. I've seen these guys previously at Farnborough and the NEC and I think I like the car more each time. They tell me sales are good, they currently have a 1 year order book![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/07/14/20230713_132242.md.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/07/14/20230713_132258.md.jpeg) This was the first time Mrs. W had seen one and I tried to gauge her reaction. She said she actually liked it (good news) but I couldn't afford one (bad news, but sadly true). . 1 year order book. Something Morgan had before the CX Chassis?

Chris, that's very nice to hear about it. I was not aware that Toyota is developing exactly in the direction of my fantasy. Thanks for the link!

A beautiful looking car but the range isn't very impressive IMHO. I wonder what the real range of a 2005 plus 4 is. 9 gals x 30 mpg?

The problem I have with the Vertige is it looks a bit too' Lotus', but good luck to 'em Surely thats a complement! ;-) But to go back to the Caterham, how long would you give them before they go belly up? 6 months? couple of years?

These Pembleton cars look attractive, the T24 looks a lot like the photoshop attempts to make a four-wheeler out of the new Morgan three-wheeler. T24 will find buyers at33K plus VAT, but so will the V Sport.
