GTN not sold at £70k see hereSeems to me that auctions, as opposed to dealer asking prices or even private sale asking prices are a real indication of what something is worth on the day.

With a few exceptions, auction prices for Classics are rather depressed at the moment. My Roadster 100 Edition comes up on Car and Classic today. A year ago, I might have been confident of achieving at least £42,000; now I would be surprised if it reaches its reserve of £35,000.

well, it cost the buyer £44,850 including fees, so £5k less than private ads rather than £10k. Which might be about right the reduction for buying from auction? Will

It has been mentioned many times over the years Morgan's flagship car has been totally undervalued up to the series4 the Gtn and aeromax being overvalued in comparison. Why I don't know..... Em

Will That car was for sale at Williams at £67,500 on behalf of the American owner, who had failed to pass the requirements to import into the US. I saw it and drove it about 6 months ago and it was at £65k, from what i saw during 2022 i'd suggested that it was a £60k car at best, probably more like high 50's (it is a lovely car in fabulous condition from a trustworthy dealer). £45k including fees is an absolute steal.

agreed, a steal
The pricing may also reflect a softer market today than even 6 months ago, as well as Henry Williams' margin :-)

It has been mentioned many times over the years Morgan's flagship car has been totally undervalued up to the series4 the Gtn and aeromax being overvalued in comparison. Why I don't know..... Em That MMC built more than the number of Aeromax they intended to means there are far rarer late model Aero based products. Had MMC stopped at 100 and not built the 20 or so cars for the USA, as well as a few others, I would find it easier to reconcile the price differential; however, as it stands, to my mind the Aero Coupe and Aero SS, etc, have lower numbers on their side. With that said, the Aeromax was a triumph of marketing for MMC and really rekindled interest outside the core demographic for the marque but that still doesn’t make it the rarest but perhaps the poster child for people who really didn’t know a lot about Morgan before they saw it (and Richard Hammond owned and repeatedly crashed, and wrote about, his). As for the GTN, personally, I am of the opinion that most people don’t see it as a lot more than a Series 1 Aero with a hard top. Fair or not is down to the individual and their opinion; however, the standard Series 1 was not lacking in power (hence more than a few ending up being written off or damaged in the early years) and the lack of open top motoring is always going to limit appeal when Aero shopping.

The S3 that sold in auction is one of my old cars. It was absolute spot on, I sold it to Williams when we had a baby so I knew it wouldn’t be used.
It was an incredible buy for the new owner as I had a significant amount more than that for it than that.
It’s definitely a sign of the times, the S1 on collecting cars tonight was a fab buy for someone too.
Now: S1 Aero 8 in Jaguar Silver Past: S3 Aero 8 in Bentley Silverlake & 2016 Plus 4 in Sport Black
