We should not argue, life is too short for that. Everyone is free to choose what they like, what they can and want to afford, how they finance or pay for it. And the new CX are simply the continuation of a success story. There have always been very conservative critics. When Porsche introduced servo assisted brakes for the first time in 1977 on the 911 SC, there was an outcry as if the country had perished. A lot is a matter of getting used to it and acceptance comes naturally with time.

One positive thing I would like to mention. Have you driven your CX today and So have you driven your Morgan today, both threads are pretty much on par. This speaks for the fact that the CX models not only exist but also are driven and give their owners a lot of pleasure.

Good point Heinz, my car driven nearly every day, hence high milage, put up with all the quirks, drafts and leaks, like in pouring rain on A49 yesterday, and although the car is properly filthy, it still looks cool parked in Ledbury high street when I went for a coffee at Greggs!

I suppose I can’t stand too much negativity. I keep away from negative moaning people in life, hence why a few people on these forums boil my p**s.

If you don’t like the CX , get rid and get something else. If you don’t like Morgan as a company, don’t deal with them. End of the day nobody really cares.

Regarding the tax over 5k miles I will save £480 in mpg over the Aero or older plus 8. Man math's is good and the plus 6 ain't bad either.

I think the breadth of views expressed on TM allow people to make up their own mind on issues, and perhaps inform them sufficiently to change their point of view.
We can't all like the same thing and share the same view on everything.

£645 ain't that bad for a modern

For comparison a late 3.7 Roadster is £520 and you CX lads are getting far better mpg

Oh, and it's only for the first 5 years and then drops to a tiny £180

Isn't the VED £645 (from 2016) made up of 2 elements the £180 pa for the life of the car and the balance £465 pa for the first 5 years because the car is over £40k to purchase new,.

I've only had the pleasure of a long test drive in a CX and I was very impressed having jumped straight out of my Roadster 4 seater into the demonstrator. It felt well put together, handled well and smoothed out the undulations and was pretty quick to boot, no axle tramp and a pleasure to drive. It was so modern it feel like driving my wife's Mercedes cabriolet, in a classic body shape.

The wider body /cabin space felt a little bit more exposed with the side screens removed, I didn't feel as hugged in the car and it felt at first more akin to sitting on the car rather than low within the car ,the brakes didn't give you much confidence, but that's been addressed now. They are a very good car, that I could easily travel vast distances in, that hopefully prove to be more reliable than the trads, all I seem to read about outside the hopefully now past rad/brake issue, is mainly issues with water leaks. A very promising sign for the future.

I've had to give up the Roadster due to injuring my back at Xmas, just too uncomfortable to depress the clutch, but I'm seriously looking at an automatic CX, as it will allow both myself and the wife to drive which is something Sue couldn't do with the Roadster, the controls ie steering, clutch, brakes were just too heavy for her to handle. So its clearly a case of horses for courses.

As the writer of the OP I have been interested in the views expressed. I had no agenda just a desire to know.

I tried a CX when they first came out which is the only reason why I'm currently not an owner. Now they've fixed the things I didn't like seats, seating position, brakes etc, sadly the ever increasing costs rule out ownership. That said I do like the idea of 'buy it on PCP, rag it and hand it back'. Mind you she who limits revolutions would never countenance that so, in the words of my late mother in law the one I've got 'will have to see me out'.

What I would like to see is CX models bringing a new, younger cohort to membership. Too many of my Morgan friends are now dead or denied to me because of ill health - dementia, parkinsons etc, etc. Thing is, I suspect that us old uns will keep them away from joining in unless we embrace them fully.

Morgan has had an annoying trend of building cars I don't want. Admittedly I do have a long list of must haves and definitely don't haves, which in the case of a new build isn't so much of a problem.

I looked at the Plus Six at launch. I was in a position to buy one, but no manual box option, and no spare wheel meant no.

Before that I'd casually looked at the Aero S5, drove one, and found that the long legs/short arms driving position, and lack of elbow space meant it was a no.

Before that came two performance Plus 4 options. I met my dealer at Silverstone for the ARP4 launch. I was about to order a Plus 4. The timing was perfect, but I just don't like the look. Too much bling, although the dashboard is arguably the best looking MMC ever made. And no wire wheel option. So it was a no.

And before that was the Plus 4 Supersport. Studded hood and no spare wheel meant a no.

The consistent pattern for me is that despite being a bespoke build, MMC are not flexible enough to sweep up potential buyers around the edges, who just want that last 5%.

I don't think it matters so much now if the 3 year plan is a popular option, and I don't think MMC have any interest in what went before. I do wish them well, but I think the future could go either way for MMC in the next five years.

You brought up an interest and very valid point in regards to being flexible with certain offers.

I looked at a Plus Four when it first launched and as trivial as it sounds, the lack of a glove box door really put me off and the fuel filler being flush whereas I wanted what I think is consider a Le Mans type. Nope. Yet 9 months later they launched the LM62 which had the one bit. That too I asked about but was limited to colour choice so I was put off again.

I recall when ordering my 80th how I wanted a spare, contrast stitching etc. Nope. No matter how much I begged and offered to pay, it was a no.

It's experiences like that which put me off regardless of how much I love the product. I've said it a few times now that not only does the product have to shine but the experience that goes with it, from the moment one walks into a retailer until the many years after ownership.
