Always a Morgan, maybe a complementary Porsche 911 as an icon and practical Sportscar? Almost bought a 997 GTS in the past, but finally went for the save and practical BMW 530d Touring Xdrive option. My wife's new Mini Cooper also ticks a lot of fun boxes. I'm satisfied at the moment, even enjoy my daily BMW iX3..........

I've had a quite a few MG Midgets, great little cars, which created some fun around bends at even moderate speeds, the backend could step out. The 1275cc was my favourite, the 1500 was too high with the rubber bumpers and the engine was very prone to head gaskets going, A very comfortable snug car, I used one for my weekly motorway commute from the Midlands to Heathrow airport for years, sit all day at 70mph, was warm and dry in the depths of winter, struggled to get a large suitcase in the boot, but other than that started every time first time even in depths of winter in the long stay carpark. No mod cons, just simple, pure and economical open air motoring. Could have done with a fifth gear for the motorway driving but other than that good fun.

Like the Spitfire the Midget was typical BL fare, required regular servicing and succumbed to tin worm before your eyes, even from new.......surprising they don't cost that much money for a good example these days

I have had many cars and bikes since I was 16, at the start because I could only afford to drive by buying a banger with some road tax on it then moving it on for a small profit when the tax ran out, also because by then, I was beginning to get bored with it. More recently ie 40 years ago, I got into Caterhams, because I wanted something more extreme for my fun motoring, and since then have built and owned 18 / 19 Sevens, mainly because of the aforementioned boredom, even with a Seven, and Caterham were always bring out a more powerful car which I lusted over, and by building them myself, I save a few thousand pounds, had a lot of fun and when I sold I made a small profit again - it also helps to justify another one to my good lady. Thew Seven thing has had to stop though, because at the age of 77 I find I have difficulty getting out - no upper body strength any longer.

I still find I am easily bored, even after 2 Morgan Three Wheelers, but I have retained interest in the current ARP4 since I bought it in 2016, although I am finding I don't drive it for fun very much, as others have commented. I recently sold a Golf R which I bought new and kept 6 years, now that was a car, but eventually boredom set in again, so it had to go. It has now been replaced with an Alpine A110 which I thought might be the car to recapture the 'driving for the sake of it' experience, but time has not allowed me to do that this year as we have put our house on the market and there is 30 years worth of stored cr*p to be moved, (no, not literal manure, but things that should have been disposed of, but seem to have been kept just in case there is a use for them).

Just a word of warning about the Alpine, because it cost of £40k when new, the government see fit to make us pay around £575 pa for the first 5 years, for the pleasure, nothing to do with emissions, but a wealth tax they snuck in at some stage. My ARP4 which cost £65k is only £225pa. Go figure!

What about this for an antidote, this morning I cracked open the sparky tapes and decorated my Italian spider with tricolour stripes!

I look no further, my Elise and 4/4, my Son with MX5 NA and my wife with 1970 Alfa Giulia 1.6. Each of these cars is fun in its own way. A 1976 911 will be sold soon and a 1966 912 as well. They are great too but if it gets to be too much it can be also a fun killer in my case.

For me the Ferrari Dino 246 GTS would do it. I first saw that car in the series The Presuaders. So that's pure nostalgia. If I sell my entire car park, I could only pay the advance. So it will remain a dream. But what would life be without dreams.Every time I'm in one of the Morgans it's like a dream come true, regardless of road or traffic conditions.

It's always going to be a very personal decision/choice. All of the cars I had in my younger years were all bought with the heart and I loved them dearly faults and all, but would I enjoy them now? A stand out has got to be our 300Tdi 110 CSW. It took an awful lot of abuse from new, piled up with the family with mud, water and sand up every orifice, but it always got us back home.

I hope Jays and the old "Wild Bunch" would approve of what Nero is getting up to these days........

I think the mountain hairpins will retain my interest and attention for a while.
