As an Indian motocycle enthusiast, the "Vindian" comes to mind. Vincent was supposed to supply engines for the Chief. Unfortunately, the collaboration between the two brands did not take place after all. Probably Indian have had to change too much for so much power. The brakes should definitely have been optimized. They are well utilized with the 32 hp of the side valve engine.
Speaking of glorious British bikes saw an absolutely mint Rickman Metisse at the Wimbotsham gathering on Monday , and a lot of Quadraphenia style scoots, which was somehow appropriate as I later went to the WHO at Sandringham 👍

MPH Your Norvin project is looking superb.... Were I the envious type I would be GREEN, looking at that which you have achieved..
Jens ... mine's nothing like the above .... it was a chopper when I bought it in California in 1979 when I was staying there .... needed an engine rebuild but I paid $300 (at the exchange rate then £150) for it😁 .... wish I could have bought another 10 at that price .... engine work wasn't expensive either .... rode it round sunny CA for a year as my daily then shipped it home with me as I'd fallen in love with it.
The fact that it was completely non-stock when I got it has meant that I could change it any way I wanted without feeling guilty about messing with a piece of history ... it's had quite a few changes of persona in the intervening 4 decades 🙂

Is that an Iron Head engine - I suspect not. I had a 1973 Iron Head Sportster a few years back - the old rocker who owned it had a heart attach and was found draped over it in the front room of their terraced house, that being where he kept it and worked on it. His partner wanted it out of the way quick so I got it for £1000. The epitomy of carp American design with solid disks that were useless compared to the VF750 I also had, an engine that regularly spat out baffles and boke down ever time it rained. Heavy old lump to push home.
howard ... it's a Knucklehead ... first Harley production bike with OHV ... 74 cu in (1200cc) made 1936 to 1947. The top pic is from a road trip with some pals up through Yosemite to a biker bash near Bakersfield (CA) either '79 or '80 ... back when the bike as low, black and chopped back to the bare bones 🙂
The Ironhead sportster was an odd beast ...like a lot of older bikes (and cars!) fixes for their foibles have been developed over the years ... still cheap by comparison to other 'classic' Harleys, but I've seen starting one reduce a grown man to tears (and physical exhaustion 🙂) ... they need to be set up right.
