I appreciate this an old post but I’m about to change the perished bushes for polyurethane bushes on my Morgan +4 T16 (1996). Everything is exposed and I’m ready to go but I was just wondering are there any factory torque settings for the bolts associated with the bushes. Any advice gratefully received.
Best

Hi Gwyn, having done this job way back in the dark ages I would say just pinch up the bolts tightly, the factory bushes were rubber, yours are poly so torque could be different anyway even if there was one?

Hi JBK…that’s good advice and a fair point regarding the different materials. Thanks very much, I’m grateful 😊.

Gwyn I would have expected the bushes would have metal inserts that securing bolts tighten against, making bush material irrelevant to bolt torque. Assuming this is the case just nip up tight as suggested above.

Yes RichardV6, I believe they are called crush tubes. They determine the distance between the remote and the gearbox faces. So, as you say, tighten up until you feel it "bottoming out". If the crush tubes are long you may need an extra plane bush in addition to the lipped one before you feel the resistance on tightening the bolt. Some Loctite or similar might be a good idea as there are no lock washers used on these bolts.
