I have recently replaced the bushings in the gear lever mechanism of my 1993 Plus 8. Having put everything back together I have noticed that the reversing lights are not working properly. When I move the gear lever into reverse, the lights come on, however when I let go of the lever they switch off. I hope that this is an easy fix and I don’t need to take the seats out/drive shaft and gear box cover etc. in order to fix this.
Thanks again for your help. David

Sounds like the reversing light switch position needs adjusting a little David, as a result of bush replacement. Some info from gomog here. Unfortunately its likely you will need to remove gearbox cover again I'm afraid. Recent thread on the subject here.

I took a pair of tinsnips to the gearbox cover on my car to provide access to change the reversing switch - which gave access in about 10 mins. I will make a small plate to fit over the hole when I'm finished.

I have a hole and panel for the reverse switch, one for the 90 degree speedo drive, and one for the speedo drive gear on the other side.....

Thanks for the input. What does the reversing light switch look like? I don’t recall seeing it when I opened up the assembly before. I do have a sliding access port on both the left and right side of the gear box cover. Maybe I can access the switch through one of these. My vehicle is a RHD 1993 Plus 8.
Thanks, David

David, the switch is on the right hand side at the bottom of the gear lever. I think you can access it trough the sliding access port. ![[Linked Image]](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53366693210_52c3a78104_m.jpg)

Dirk, my 97 +4 had the same box but no access port. With the leather removed from the gearbox tunnel I could & did replace item 3 in Richards post above but the switch would be unreachable. As with all Mogs it depends on the day they were built as to what you get.

John, you are right, but I think David mentioned that he has a sliding access port.

It looks like the previous owner thankfully cut an access point into the top of the gearbox housing to make it easier to access the switch. Image link below. I assume the switch needs to be tightened to improve the connection, then lock in place with the locking nut. think I made the mistake of trying to do this while the car was in reverse gear with the ignition on (so that I can see when the reversing light is on). I ended up blowing the 5A fuse! I will try again tomorrow. Since the bolt has the wires attached to the connectors, there is only a limited amount of turning I can do on the bolt without twisting the wires and putting stress on the connectors. Let me know if there is a better way to do this 😊. https://flic.kr/p/2piWR11Thanks. David
