Even though they are a 4 seater they are actually built on a 2 seater chassis.

With a new body frame and panelling, I'm probably 10 grand down already but the end result will be worth it.

Does yours have a boot, or exposed spare wheels?

It has a boot.

The 4 seat Drop Head Coupe production run was from 1954 to 1956

Around 1955, the factory changed from a trunnion chassis to a shackle chassis. The difference being with a trunnion chassis the rear springs are secured within a trunnion tube running between the chassis rails. With a shackle chassis the rear springs are secured in shackles.

Twin spare wheels would usually be fitted to a trunnion chassis and secured to the trunnion tube by a vertical post welded to the tube and a cast alloy clamp.

Therefore it would be perfectly feasible for a very early 4 seat DHC to have twin spare wheels

The ex-John Macdonald DHC is no longer on the Car & Classic website and I see it was re-taxed today so presumably it sold.

The earlier debate about Dixon Smith's DHC is settled in the latest Miscellany. Turns out it's a 3-seater!

With regards to the John Macdonald car, it has now been relisted on Car & Classic, still at £58K.

Yeah, and my 1955 Snobmog is in Vintage Sheet Metals advert!
