Due to my stupid dietary restrictions I'm a little limited with alcohol, but I do enjoy a good bourbon and coke. Out it's usually JD, but I do enjoy a Jim Beam Red Stag at home. Recently had a week in Nashville so was spoiled for choice! Love a good still strong cider (not the fizzy stuff) but sadly limited choice out and about, My local usually had about 3 or 4 but they've just had to close down so I'm a bit deprived at the moment. Since Guiness changed their brewing process, I'm now allowed a pint of the black stuff, so that's a good fall back.

Not a fan of single malts - although they can all be improved with a splash of coke.

Still awaiting the Christmas batch of 's sausage rolls. She uses puff pastry and has been known to also use proper skinned sausages for the filling.

I was in a band from 1988 to 1990 and the singer drank Shandies, I tired it and found it was quite good, especially for long gigs on hot nights when the stage is even hotter. He also got me ono Creme De Menthe with lemonade.

I have a missing blood gene that knows the blood is in my body which means the blood clots very easily. I have had 6 blood clots including two DVT's, I am now on blood thinners. After a while the Doctor said it was OK to try a drink but only one and see how I react as it is possible the alcohol will prevent the blood thinner working as it is supposed to. I had an Alcoholic Ginger Beer at a brewery that made it on the premises and probably a bit stronger than a standard beer . Tasted fantastic but two weeks later I had a lot of pain in my leg all over, an ultrasound showed a 40cm DVT in my thigh and 3 blocked veins in my calf so I have not drunk alcohol since.

So my favourite going out drink is a Chocolate Milkshake

I like a traditional Christmas fruit cake with Marzipan and white icing, but no-one else likes Marzipan so I have not had one for a long time. My wife likes to make a lot of interesting things, her own made sausage rolls using sausage meat without skins, her own beetroot dip from home grown beetroots, her own fruit mince to make tarts with, amaretti balls with a lot of gin so I don't have any. Hopefully that gives you some ideas of food if you want to try something.

Bit like Phil .... Dark Rum and Coke (a nice Estate Rum preferably) ... as the evening goes on the Rum gets bigger and the Coke gets smaller 🙂

Love the Malt and Coke reference ... definitely picking a cross-border fight with such blasphemy!! 😁

Happy to take some of the flak by declaring that Whisky/Whiskey of all sorts does absolutely nothing for me and I've never understood the mystique that floats around it ... just my personal taste you understand🙂

Ps ... Sportster, for a while our friend group used to hold meals where everyone brought a dish that was traditional to where they grew up ... was fun digging out recipes for odd things we ate 50 years ago.

Good idea K but I don't think dripping sandwiches would have the same allure now that it did back in the 50's

Have you tried a Dark & Stormy? Two parts dark spiced rum to five parts Ginger Beer - a squeeze of a quarter of a lime? Worth a shot if you haven't and like the sound of it. I've dabbled with various rums for the mix and have settled on Kraken being one of the better ones and Bundaberg Ginger Beer being a good match.

A nice glass of good Amarone, with some good cheese, is a great winter shout as well.

Was in Jersey over the summer and had a few scoops in this pub. They certainly liked their malts and we're happy to pay stupid money for them, the Hakusha was £75 a shot! As I said recently on another thread, a fool and his money.....

Richard ... I want a dripping sandwich now!! ... from some nice roast beef with a good sprinkle of salt! .. not exactly the healthy-option breakfast but you only live once!🙂

Half the fun was watching your friends eat all sorts of old-worlde 'treats' (being Londoners there were a good few eel recipes to unleash on the unsuspecting gathering (smoked, really nice ... jellied, an acquired taste!🙂).

We had us Cockneys, Scots from all over, Yorkshire Lass, a Geordie, an Irish Lass and even a couple of New-Englanders from across the pond ... made for fun evenings 🙂

Alcohol is a natural blood thinner - you should just ditch the tablets and spend all day drunk.

I used to work in a Tattoo shop many moons ago, and you could always tell when someone was either very hungover, or been for a bit of dutch courage beforehand as they'd bleed like a stuck pig.....

Ha! ... food/drink and memories ... when I finished college in the early '70s and not knowing what I wanted to do I got a job at Vauxhalls in Luton welding suspension parts for CF vans ... real old factory environment ... tea break was on the shop floor where a lady in a head-scarf rolled up with a trolley bearing dripping sandwiches and hot tea. ... different world ...... haven't thought of that in decades but it just popped into my head clear as day!! 😀
