Hi all,

The horn on my Roadster became weedy last night, probably a loose connection due to either damp or vibration. However, I've had a search under the bonnets and can't find it - all clues to its location gratefully received.

On my 2014 4/4 it is underneath the lower panel in front of the radiator.

Mine were under the front of the wings, going weedy was in my experiennce, down to getting water inside....

Either above or below the panel by the cowl brhind the grill and before the rad. They normally get rusty but can be rebuilt, I keep a spare set and swap them over.

You may be able to get you hand in but if the rad is close you need to remove the cowl.

There should be two horns on a Roadster Jon, high and low note located under the tray at bottom of grill, or above if spoiler fitted. If either fail you will be left with a seemingly weak single horn. If you remove the number plate support (two bolts after removing plate) the grill will drop out also and access will be easy from below or above.

Had to change one on our Mini recently for same reason, not the easy to access one of course

I wouldn't bother trying to rebuild the OE horns. They are sold as matching pairs on eBay for peanuts. Might be an opportunity to upgrade to relay operated air horns though.

This is what they'll look like inside, very easy to strip, dry out and clean all the crud off the diaphragm

Many thanks, found the horns (not visible from anywhere other than directly underneath when you have a Mulfab radiator) and checked the connections, plus a judicious application of WD40 and all seems to be sorted for now.

All the above advice taken on board for the eventual failure.

A lot of these horns give up due to water ingress through the trumpet onto the diaphragm. Although it might seem best to point the trumpet directly forwards, that is laying it open to flooding, especially if the horns are down underneath. After my first horn drowning, I angled mine away from pointing forward and have had no problems since the past 10 years or so. The sound still gets out well enough.

Agreed Doug. A near right angle bend in those brackets would have sorted it as well.
