Of course nothing taken personal Jon, we can all just state what’s on our minds, say what we like.

Maybe, I’m just in a cynical mood , having probably spent millions on lorries and farm equipment, hundreds of thousands on modes of transport, I can’t think of a single firm / manufacturer who gives a toss about you once the deal is done and you have taken delivery of your vehicle.

What do you think Morgan should do for you/ me / us. ?

The New owners of Morgan Motor Company aren’t grateful because you / we / me have bought from them in past. It’s past history isn’t it? They want the next killer deal!

I think that once you own a Morgan, whether you like it or not, you're part of a group or community, you're odd, different.
Whether or not a Morgan owner goes on to use the factory or a main dealer or an independant after purchase it didn't used to matter, you were given a toss about, by someone.......
Many Morgan owners are serial Morgan owners, once you've had one, another one, or two or more usually follow.
Any dealer worth dealing with, wants repeat business, they'd be mad not to, especially in a world as small as the Morgan world, the same faces to tend to crop up again and again.🤷🏻‍♂️

I have been the same for many years, knowingly part of the field sales team.
Its actually part of owning a Mog that I love, people love something I love. No nasty.
Driving the Coupe around produces an amazing amount of love, for good reason.
Getting it to drive around sometimes creates a bit of frustration and wallet rendering. Yet I still have it.

A brand is created and continued through the work of the staff making them, the buyers wanting them, the press writing about them etc etc.
It needs that circular balance. So if you are going to break it you need to be confident.
But - What's Coke? Fizzy water and advertising. Aldi fizzy cola - 37p, Coke - £1.50. So you can see the value of advertising and branding.
They are still in business, you see the stupid self important Christmas advert every year.

You can take a sharp right turn and the outcome shows the skills of the management for judging the brand when you look back 10 years from now.
Was the turn a good judgement based on where it took the business.
In a small business like Morgan after any change you either look like a king or a klutz.
However you can only rip the a*se out of a brand for so long before it becomes bankrupt.

I think they did the trad body on the CX chassis as it is what the Morgan brand stands for - the iconic shape and style.
Like the Aero Plus 8, which I am guessing sold more units to the existing customer base/prospects than the Aero Series and SS/Coupe for the limited time it ran?

TVR was sold into new hands and it splattered in a big way. The old customer base was left for dead, a few came to Aero's.

Morgan have had to make big bets often due to their size and the markets critical mass requirements.
This will be judged in ten years time.
Hopefully.
Investors sometimes have shorter term interests ?
Where is the popcorn and remote?
In the meantime put the miles in. Sweat that asset.

When I studied Marketing many decades ago, the average age at which individuals became brand loyal was 29, hence the targeting of the ever younger generations by many brands .

These days it appears that most brand loyalty can be fixed between the ages of 13 to 16 years,.During an early 2020 US survey, 75 percent of Generation X respondents (born between 1965 and 1980) stated they felt loyal towards their favourite brands, whereas nine percent said they did not. Among Millennials and Generation Z (born between 1981 and 2000), the share of loyal consumers stood at nearly 79 percent.

For decades, each generation has had its own unique relationship with cars. Baby Boomers, born in the post-war boom between 1946 and 1964, were car manufacturers' dream customers. Their substantial spending power and net worth was inextricably linked with the growth in car sales.

The demographic bridge between the Boomers and Millennials is Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980 and the most exclusive of the gens with only around 65 million worldwide, this cohort is outnumbered when compared to 75 million Boomers and 83 million Millennials.

Generation X was characterised by families where men were not the sole earners as was the case in the Boomer household but rather more women than ever were working outside of the home, necessitating the need for two cars in many households.

But it was the arrival of the Millennials or those born between 1981 and 1996, the generation whose entry into the workplace coincided with the 2007–09 recession, that sparked predictions about the end of car ownership and driving. This generation opted to share rather than own cars.

For Millennials, the costs involved with owning and maintaining a car combined with a desire for technology and on-demand services made the new evolving options of ride-hailing services and ride sharing more appealing.

Public transport increasingly favoured

However, studies in the US now indicate that Millennials, despite being more receptive to using alternative modes of transportation to get from point A to point B than prior generations, do drive but just less than previous generations.

According to the journal Transportation Research, Millennials are driving 8 per cent less than Generation X and 9 per cent less than Baby Boomers.

Generation Z, those born after 1996 are the first generation to grow up with the Internet and smartphones and are considered the most critical consumer group making their buying preferences much harder for digital marketers to predict.

Today it's these digitally savvy young people that have carmakers concerned. This generation it seems is shunning driving and opting more for sustainable choices like cycling and public transport.

They are the most diverse generation in the EU and the best educated but they are also the most vulnerable in the housing and labour markets.

In fact, Generation Z is the generation most at risk of poverty and worst affected by the lack of intergenerational earning mobility. In addition, they have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic following school and college closures and also job losses. It is likely therefore that Gen Z will shun driving not just for concerns about health and the environment but also due to costs.

A recent German study on changes in everyday bicycle and car use that occurred between 2002 and 2017 showed that changes in everyday mobility are not driven by generational change.

Instead, the research suggests that whether individuals are more likely to use a car or a bicycle as a transport mode is determined by a number of varied factors, the most significant being where you live, education, income, and commuting distance.

According to The Future of Mobility, a new report from the global management consulting firm McKinsey, mobility is "on the verge of a major transformation” and one major outcome will be “fewer private-car sales".

The next decade will see a reduction of 15 per cent but as more countries and cities enact regulations to encourage sustainability and curb private vehicle use from reduced parking spaces to limiting the number of private cars in cities, the use of cars is expected to fall dramatically, particularly in many European and US cities.

The proliferation of low-paid and less secure jobs and a decrease in home ownership is likely to result in lower car ownership rates among Gen Z but change will not be driven by one age cohort.

The car is expected to maintain its dominant position over the next decade but it will face increasing competition from alternative transportation modes and it's likely, in the future, more than just Gen Z will wonder if they really need to own a car.

Not everything going forward bodes well for widespread car ownership, especially for niche high value cars especially one marketed towards the exclusive and well heeled purchaser.

Nothing personal Jono, just using your statement...for discussion

Sooo, as we have seen, many CX owners bail out of ownership and despite being brand aware, do they encourage others ?

I probably fall into Jono's quote, BUT when I first bought a Trad I thought it would be a keeper, then I traded up a few times and added another so actually bought 5 Mogs, I've also acted as an amateur ambassador for the brand, several people own Mogs because of my enthusiasm, so MMC should have interest in and value us too

Were all those 5 Morgans bought brand new from the Factory? In my case none of my Morgans have been bought brand new from the factory but have been good residual business for Morgan Dealers whether through purchase or repairs. I do all my own maintenance primarily due to distances involved, the Morgan Dealers I deal with don't just sell Morgans they sell other classic brands and service them too. So I agree with Jono's sentiments the factory really has no interest in me and my ilk; why should they once a brand new vehicle is purchased from them as we are no longer filling the company coffers. Driving the vehicles for the public to see and for us to tell the wonderful Morgan stories is the contribution and publicity we give the company. Unless you are a mega global car manufacturer with an extensive dealer network doing massive residual servicing and parts business then you will pay some attention to your brand ownership.

I had to laugh at the recent comments on here to the Company putting on a driving tour in Europe. Here is the Company trying to do something different for their customers and all we can do is pick holes and ridicule the Company as we do on many other occasions, great customer support.

Fair comment Bruce, I do not mean this in a rude manner. It is not really doing anything different? The independent tour businesses have been around for ever and in most cases they have a fairly well set itinerary and the get out is based on not having enough people sign up and put the deposit down. It's quite a bit of effort to set everything up and a friend who joined a Porsche tour similar to this (?) said a lot of work went into every stop etc.

It's nice that they do this to bring in more people but is it fair to say that the message was part baked? If it was £2k I was being asked to speculate on I might be okay but it's not. The level of money outlined needs a little more justification. I say that as one of the "posh aero peeps" laugh2 It feels a bit like they have sent a lure email to the prospective customer base as a target and it's existing customer base feels a tad disconnected?

I think the difference between the existing (Trad?) customer base and their idea of the future customer base for Plus Four/Six on credit and looking totally fabulous darling (sorry that was me being naughty and a tad sarcastic) is becoming more interesting. Is interesting the right word. Even as an Aero owner I am starting to feel a bit like I don't see the company I first met.

This is an interesting thread.

On the topic of the current MMC, one just needs to look back when Porsche was about to launch the Cayenne. The Porsche fan and customer base cried foul and repeated much of what is being said here. Look at Porsche now.

The same can be said for Bentley when VW bought them and the first GT was launched. The customer base at that time didn't understand it but boy oh boy, Bentley rose from the ashes and is what it is today on that major shift in their product offer. Ditto for the Bentayga.

In regards to the current finance offer, I am struggling to understand why so many are viewing it as a negative or as mentioned above, find holes in it. If MMC don't drum up sales, cater to those who are willing to pony up the price of a CX, then your beloved brand will go bust. it's that simple.

Thank goodness for that or Morgan would not be in existence.

Over here at our local Cars and Coffee events we have a contingent of "Traditional" older Ford Mustang owners who bring their 1960s Pony Cars and a younger contingent who call in with their modern Mustangs that apart from some semblance of style and the badge are nothing like the "Traditional". The brand continues with a loyal young following who used the purchasing options provided by Ford, they do not want to do the things the older generation do with their cars but feel part of Ford and the Mustang Brand. I hope that Morgan can achieve the same.
