I have taken a deposit on my GTN so there is a good chance it is going to a new home. I have a whole host of odds and ends that are almost made of unobtainium 😀 including a spare set of GTN black magnesium wheels.
I am gathering everything up for the prospective buyer to have first refusal but if they decide against, the. I will post the items here

Hi, I run a standard S1, but would be really interested in the wheels if they do end up surplus to requirements in any way, and probably several of the other bits etc… let me know if and when.

So the spare wheel i kept is now going on my car - the wheel which was "repaired" when i bought the car last year apparently wasn't repaired all that well. Still holding air but i'm worried about hitting a pothole at the wrong angle and cracking the wheel.
I am now investigating taking one of my spare wheels to a wheel manufacturer to have the wheel scanned and then a set made in aluminium. Image Wheels have suggested a split rim with billet centre, 3SDM have suggested a forged wheel. Either way, i've told them i'm looking for something which is visually as close as possible to the original design, so i'll report back once i have some prices and designs.
If i do end up getting a new set of aluminium wheels then i'll probably get 5 made, and my 4 good magnesium wheels will be available for sale, potentially along with the damaged spare.
Ultimately if a new set of aluminium wheels means the car is more useable without significant penalties then that's the way i'll be going.

What was wrong with the repair? Was it visible or something found upon a tyre change - would be good to know I guess for future reference for those inspecting wheels/cars etc.
For making alloy custom wheels if I recall the cost to do something like this was around 5/10k, of course once patterned subsequent ones would be cheaper, be interesting to know how much heavier they would be.
OZ would still make new sets of the mag wheels but require a minimum order quantity, which I imagine would be hard to fill hence why Morgan don't have any.

Pete I am sorry to hear that you have had to use the spare. I would be interested to hear what your exploring reveals - I would be up for buying any that end up surplus to requirements (I have a repaired pair on the car at the moment), or perhaps even going in if a credible alternative can be made. Let me know if I can help. Just as an aside, I have been trying to find out where some of the suspension rose joints/ball joints, and the track rod rose joints, come from - so I might be able to share that if I make progress. If those parts can be sourced easily it might make a heavier wheel more practical? Rgds

I’ve enquired with 2 OZ wheel importers on what the minimum order of wheels would be for them to make the original magnesium wheels again. I have no idea how many they’ll come back with, even if they would be willing. Once I get a reply I’ll let you guys know. If it’s not an insane amount maybe all us series 1 owners could get together for a group buy. I’ll keep you in the loop with what I hear.

The o/s/r wheel had a chunk missing from the inside edge of the rim - still holding air but clearly damaged. Williams sent the wheel off to someone to have it repaired, but when the car was in for service last week they noticed that the repair had failed. Again, still holding air but frankly we're not sure how! I'll try and attach a picture. ![[Linked Image]](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53553218008_8a5e489857_c.jpg) Pete I am sorry to hear that you have had to use the spare. Oh, i checked the starter fuse and it was already a 30A :-) Happy to sell my undamaged spares if i get all new, but equally i will keep you informed on my progress with the new possibilities. Would be keen to hear how you get on with rose joints too. I’ve enquired with 2 OZ wheel importers on what the minimum order of wheels would be for them to make the original magnesium wheels again. I heard from a third party that OZ Racing had suggested a new batch would be 100 wheel minimum, but i can't remember who told me that. Will be good to hear what your sources come back with. Fundamentally i still think moving away from magnesium is the better long term solution, i'm not convinced these wheels are actually all that light (!) and forged/billet aluminium wheels are much less delicate/fragile and much more easily repaired.

Towards the end of S1 production we did see some with the more standard 5 stud wheels which went onto the S2 so I am guessing they can be swapped if you ever get into really difficulty. Finding someone to cashflow 100 wheels is pretty serious. Is there any way that they would accept less but a higher per unit cost so they still see profit overall, not wanting to give them carte blanche but...
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
