It’s not a continuous clicking but one click/clunk then u have to release and push the starter again. Sometimes it can take 20 plus attempts for me

From your description Viper, my guess would be that you have a variable resistance in your starter circuit the relay operated by the push button would perhaps be the first port of call...?

Sometimes it can take 20 plus attempts for me Probably a partially stuck piggyback solenoid Viper. Proof of this make come from a second person operating starter button whilst you lightly tap the solenoid itself with a soft hammer. If the motor then operates you have the culprit although nowadays it means a complete new/exchange starter motor as mentioned earlier. It doesn't sound like the starter relay as that makes a much lighter click although an easy check is with plug-in replacement if above reveals nothing.

Sometimes it can take 20 plus attempts for me Last time this happened to a pals car, with similar symptoms I stripped the motor to find the brushes had worn so low that the commutator was damaged and full of carbon/copper goo, causing a sort of 'short out' of power & the battery struggled to rotate the motor
