Epic Euro excursion

The Italian 🇮🇹 trip has begun. The drive to Newcastle to catch the overnight ferry was quite pleasant. The DFDS service is absolutely superb, what a pleasure, all immaculate and a comfortable cabin. the buffet meal and breakfast had endless choice and dozens of attentive staff.
It’s been a long drive from Amsterdam to our next stop here in Munich, top speed on the autobahn was 170mph but petrol disappears fast at that speed and I paid a whopping 2.54euro per litre for the premium stuff on the motorway so probably not worth the time saving.

Some likeminded travellers at the Newcastle terminal

Ewan, thanks for the information on the museums, as long as you avoid the test drive all is good then.

Love the V12 shot.

There were load of other significant engine to see ant Ferrari, incredible engineering even by today’s standards.

Alfa Romeo museum was an even better effort, here’s a Taste of the private storage collection, lots of cancelled one off cars, even a version of our Spider. There even a prototype of the Algeria with a Rover badge on the bonnet….they tested it in and around Milan but were worried it would damage the Alfa reputation if it was seen broken down so they pretended it was a Rover,😂
The young lady who did the guided tour was very engaging, the Italian accent and translation anomalies make the English language sound so much nicer.

The main public display is immaculately presented and comprehensive, just a small selection again.

Alfa Romeo made many things including almost the Kitchen sink, a state of the art cooker combining gas and electricity!

They had dozens of aircraft engine, straight and rotary, they even built their own Wankel engine but it was never used and an electric hybrid of the 4 cyl boxer in the eighties. They chucked away a fortune on projects which never made it to full production most of them good ideas well ahead of their time.

Milan is another beautiful city, it was very busy in the centre yesterday and a stark contrast to my normal life. If you dress yourself in these shops, you’ll look a million bucks, that’s quite literally what it’ll cost you😂

They've made some wonderfully pretty cars in their time .. that 8c Mille Miglia would look great in my workshop ... the plane has a look of a Percival Mew Gull about it ... very much a design of its time. Those are serious crowds! (Would kick off Mrs Image's people-phobia big-time!🙂) ... wonderful juxtaposition of conspicuous retail consumption and the Hammer and Sickle in that first street scene🙂

All in all looks an outstanding trip so far!
