I had a few forms on DVLA recently and they have averaged around 5-7 days.
Licence transfers and car ownership changes.
Nice to see passport stepping up as it used to be a disaster.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

The UK Passport system is way ahead of the US, I renewed my British Passport photo and documentation all online and received the new passport within 10 days. As for the system over here better I not say anything but I think it is emerging from the 19th Century.

Well done for getting ready to travel again Richard, I know exactly how you felt regarding self travel after career travels. I retired early coming up to eight years ago and vowed never to travel overseas for 3 years.. It was not for the lack of the enjoyment once on the ocean or at the destination, but the hassle of getting to that point. I still absolutely hate airports, always arrive early and my wife says I automatically switch back into crew herding/management mode.. that is herding her through the airport check-in/immigration/customs.. I also miss the flying experience that used to be there in to 70's/80's/90's, flying is not the same now, even on the few occasions getting on the aircraft and turning left instead of right the "club/1st" experience is not the same. However, I still quite enjoy ferry trips ( upto a day ) and use the Plymouth - Roscoff ferry link a fair bit, nice and relaxed, easy check-in and loading and also easy out at Roscoff.. I think the only event was one particular customs officer that insisted I open the boot for him to inspect, he just did not get it that the Morgan did not have one, as a face saving episode he then asked me to open both the bonnet sides. Thanks Dave, I see you totally understand the feeling. The Plymouth Roscoff sounds like a good option we shall have to explore, I am actually looking forward to a trip away now, the boss is fancying the Canaries with a hire car, we don't do beach stuff. Good to see you preparing to expand your horizons again. Yes it will be good to get back into exploring a few more foreign parts, although still so much of our magic Isle remain unexplored.

So....both of us have passed the "3 score years and ten" and we've finally nailed this international travel thing. When you book airline tickets use the "need assistance" button. you will be picked up at the ticket counter, wheeled thru TSA and taken to the gate or the plane and given priority boarding. If travelling international you are picked up at the Jetway and wheeled thru immigration and baggage claim and thru customs . It works a treat and the only charge is a tip for the attendant. Some of these airports are set up for marathon runners and are beyond the scope of elderly passengers.
On one trip we landed in Munich at Gate 2 and our connecting flight was at gate 88 in 40 minutes. Not possible without wheeled transport!!

It is great when you need a hand, but please do not use the service if you do not need it. As a 73 year old regular flier I do not need it and hopefully never will, but would be sad if the service gets devalued by people just trying to avoid queues

As a 73 year old regular flier I do not need it and hopefully never will, but would be sad if the service gets devalued by people just trying to avoid queues I would agree with that having experienced Heathrow wheelchair service for my wife a few years ago. My wife broke her hip joint in a fall whilst visiting the UK, after the surgery and having being cleared to fly home we had to have the airline and Heathrow care teams assist her getting to the aircraft,etc. The ambulance dropped us off curbside at the Terminal the airline team with wheelchair were waiting for us, they whisked us through check in to the Heathrow team. This is where I witnessed the chaos and abuse of the assistance service, we were immediately looked after and taken through security and to the First Class lounge then onto the aircraft. What I saw were perfectly able bodied people pretending they couldn't walk and demanding assistance but were very able once they got past security, our porter who was Indian told me the Indians were the worst and hated when their planes landed.

However I am now 78 and am glad that " need assistance" button is there for my use. And its not to avoid queues but to get me from terminal to terminal or gate to gate.

Having completed the necessary online forms we posted off the requested documents on the 20th May, lo and behold new Passports delivered on the 29th May. A Bank Holiday weekend included as well !
That is what I call GOOD Service and great to see the Civil Service in good order, credit where it's due folks. Arent our passports printed in France these days?

Having completed the necessary online forms we posted off the requested documents on the 20th May, lo and behold new Passports delivered on the 29th May. A Bank Holiday weekend included as well !
That is what I call GOOD Service and great to see the Civil Service in good order, credit where it's due folks. Arent our passports printed in France these days? They are printed in Tczew, Poland since 2018 apparently which makes the short turnaround all the more amazing..
