What a cracker, thanks for posting Richard.... Brings back memories of seeing both an XDSS and D Type together at Knockhill, while attending a Bentley track day in my then 911 SC. As I have typed before on TM, It felt to be the greatest privilege to be on track immediately following the D Type for a few laps before the red mist got the better of me and I overtook the D under braking. In general performance terms the D type was not getting away from my SC so seemed pretty evenly matched on power, from a dull memory I think the SC had perhaps 204 BHP when new, but my SC had perhaps 80k on the clock at the time.... Whether the Jags were original or not I have no idea, though they shure looked to be so...
Was back at a Knockhill PCGB track event yesterday.... As ever we enjoyed a smattering of Scottish weather, and amazingly there was not a lot of tail out fun at the hairpin even in very wet weather.. There were a few folk seemingly going for it, and none more so than a chap in a GT3RS.... boy did he make that engine sing dropping down the gears to enter the hairpin, and then back up through them as he rocketed uphill in heavy rain with the engine on full chat.... Iconic ice engineering in action is special is it not....?

Glad you enjoyed it George, what a great experirnce and memory being on track with a D excellent stuff. I have seen and heard some fabulous machinery at Lord Marches place during Revival, which I still think of as a privilege that these owners want to share and use them.

Actor and driving enthusiast The “King Of Kool” Steve McQueen poses with his 1956 Jaguar XK-SS Roadster at his Brentwood home in June, 1966 in Los Angeles, California. Of the many cars owned by actor Steve McQueen, this race-bred Jaguar was his favorite. He enjoyed driving the car fast and is reported to have received enough speeding tickets that his driver’s license was almost suspended twice during his first year of ownership. Unhappy with the original white paint and red interior, McQueen had the car repainted an appropriate British racing green and re-trimmed with black leather upholstery but despite the dismissive moniker, it remains one of the most desirable cars in the world with an estimated value around $30 million! thanks to both the model's scarcity and the Steve McQueen coolness factor ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/07/04/sm.jpg)

![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/07/05/c130.jpg) A C-130 assisted by jets leaving Blythe, CA on 2NOV1985. This always looks impressive to further enhance the planes STOL abilities, I recall my late Father telling me they had similar fitted to their Spits in Italy towards the end of the war when they were rocketing the withdrawing forces.

![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2024/07/06/we.jpg) Weslake MotorcyclesHarry Weslake was born in Exeter in 1897. His father Henry directed Willey and Co, an engineering company in Exeter which supplied gas meters to the industry - at the time, most of the heating and lighting was by coal gas. At the age of 15 he blew his life savings on a pair of goggles, hired a motorcycle and puttered off into the blue yonder until stopped by Mr Plod, who waggled his finger and sent him home. With the onset of war, against his family's wishes he joined the Royal Flying Corps. Whilst still enlisted he took out a patent on a carburettor. The Wex carburettor by Weslake of Exeter may be something of a tongue twister, but it worked well. Harry was 18. By the early 1920s he had his own workshop and became interested in why two seemingly identical engines would perform very differently, so he applied the skills he had learned whilst working with his father, a gas engineer, to discovering the secrets of induction. He gas-flowed the heads, in the process creating one of the most important engine development techniques. Over the following decades and during the second war Harry worked with numerous companies in the automotive field including W. O. Bentley (a fellow motorcyclist, of Australian parentage), SS Cars and later Jaguar, Austin, Citroen, and Armstong Siddeley. He also worked with Riley, who did not have the good grace to appreciate him. Postwar he formed Weslake and Co. Ltd. and provided cylinder heads for the Ford GT40 Le Mans cars which famously trounced Enzo's Ferraris in 1966, finishing first, second and third. [1] In the 1970s his motorcycle speedway engines had become very successful, winning the 1976 world speedway championship. Two years later in the '78 championship Weslakes took 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place, with a delighted Harry looking on. He collapsed that evening and died happy.
