First post and Greetings from Scotland based new member.

I am currently weighing up dipping my toe in Morgan ownership. By way of background I have been very fortunate to have a track record of interesting cars in the past including multiple Caterhams (up to 620) Lotus Exiges and some GT Porsches.

I am not looking for ultimate performance, rather a car my wife and I can use for days out and potentially touring longer distances - Alps, pop into the ring en route - that kind of thing. So being reasonably comfortable and potential reliability are important.

So, have kind of whittled my choices down to Aero 8 (mark 4 or 5 probably) or early Plus six.

Appreciate any advice/help or input please folks - many thanks!

Welcome. I have never owned either of these cars. The CX Plus Six I have driven & I own a Plus Four. The Plus Six would tick your boxes but there have been significant changes since 2019 & aftermarket suspension from SSL. I let a P6 owner(s) comment on which MY to go for. MY22 was a big change/ upgrade for the CX cars with better suspension , geometry & hood.

fwiw having owned an Aero S5 & watched with horror at the recurring production quality issues of the CX cars, and the lary kickdown behaviour of the Plus Six... I'd plump for an Aero. Find one that's been used a bit rather than a garage queen, and serviced on the dot. If you can, SSL suspension makes for a more comfortable and engaging car to drive & be a passenger in - and it's tuneable to your preference. There's a fairly well-used S4 coming up for auction this weekend that if nothing else would give you an idea of what's available & real-world pricing https://bid.humbertellis.com/auctio...WOHl8XsDwVxRA_aem_mdNVSmR8n91sNrf6C7MXqQ

I’ve driven an early Plus Six and a 2023 car. The earlier one had a rather “lumpy” and frequent gear change in normal Auto at normal road speeds. The ‘23 car was a lot smoother. As with all Morgans, each individual car is different, so it’s best just to drive them before you decide!

Thanks for the replies guys, some excellent advice.

Thanks for the auction link also, two things struck me, as you say that’s a fairly well used Aero having 45K ish miles on it. I’m sure that will depress the value a fair bit, it’s pretty brutal out there meantime in the used performance car market - I speak from first hand experience - having recently taken a hit a lovely 992T Porsche that I’d owned from new.

These auctioneers do take the proverbial with their charges - 15% buyer premium - I’m clearly in the wrong line of work….

I have taken my Aero +8 through France a few times. It's comfortable, reliable and a lovely thing for continental cruising.

Another vote for the Aero 8, I would say this fits your requirement as a very capable long distance tourer for two. A boot (best on the S4) and a well sealing roof in my opinion makes it an ideal choice. Mind you it can be a bit of a hooligan too, if you feel so inclined.
I see Revolutions in Perth have both used Aero 8s and Plus Sixs listed for sale. If possible, drive a few different cars for each type and see what that tells you. Whatever you choose enjoy the moment.
