That's very unfortunate, I can understand in part whilst the car is under warranty Morgan may want to lock the ECU, but after the expiration of the warranty period you should be able to do what you want (within reason) to your car as long as it remains legal.

That's an exciting question, both technically and legally. I'm surprised that it was even possible to rewrite the ECUs in BMW cars.
If we think back to the Ford engines in the Roadster S2 and 3.7 with the ugly revhang, absolutely nothing could be rewritten from the outset. Ok, that's a different situation than when something suddenly becomes impossible at BMW during the ongoing process that was previously possible.

Just don't be hasty John. Give it some time and talk to Krazy Horse. There are some clever people around.

I'm sure a friendly BMW dealer will sort this to enable the KH modifications John.

over ten years on and us 3.7 owners still have no simple route to an ECU flash, allegedly all down to the Factory not inputting the VIN of each build into the ECU when it's fired up for the first time, so ends up with a generic lock, even Ford tuning specialists can't crack it

Thats what I meant. Perhaps you can contact Ford directly to get some help, or even better someone knows someone who is working in the right department of Ford engine development?

When I had my 3.7 V6 Roadster a few years ago, I also had a Ford GT. As it happens, Revolve Technologies who developed part of the Ford GT, worked with Morgan on the ECU. My 3.7 engine sounded like a bag of spanners at around 2.5k revs, so they were able to look at it for me.

John, definitely wait for KH to look at your car. I do find it odd that the factory are the only ones with access. Dealers and authorised garages should be able to even through a link to a central computer. I think that is the case for BMW dealers/ authorised independants. Correct me if I am wrong.
Also, are recovery/ breakdown services like AA or RAC able to access the ecu for fault diagnosis and, reset ability. A reflash is the next stage up so that might be blocked for them as a step too far! Maybe even dealers don't have this flash/remap access?
