In 1999 Amalah and I went to look at a Ferrari Dino for sale at our Ferrari dealer, It was for sale for £33k. The dealer owner, unusually, a woman, had a bit of an attitude to us possibly because I had turned up in our shopping trolly and said she could not find the keys. We said we would come back later, meanwhile we had a roam around the nearby Mercedes Garage where Amalah fell in love with the (then) novel convertible roof of the SLK. So that was bought for her!. She still has the SLK and I remind her at least once a year that the SLK is worth £3k and the Dino would be worth £350k.Ah well

I think in reality you may have dodged a bullet in buying the SLK.... Try beaming up some pics of that which may be lying under skilfully applied filler and polished paintwork, perhaps add to that a bit of coastal parking... eek

My first company car was an open option as I worked for a small company with a petrol head boss.

The Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC had just come out and had big Recaros, a 2L 2*dual carb weber engine and lots of black plastic body kit. I was in love. I got a test drive and fell in love. For a FWD car it was amazing. Sadly insurance were not so keen so it was off the list. Still I did get a Renault 5GT Turbo so life remained good.

This thread brings up painful memories for me and if I didn't like +8Rich as much as I do, I may bend the rules of TM on this occasion and make the creation of this thread a banning offence! grin2

I just console myself with even had I purchased the three cars at the points in time that I viewed them, all of which are now stratospherically out of my price range, I probably would have sold them before they went crazy anyway... (you're still in my bad books Rich somestick nono laugh2 )

I remember in the 'fuel crisis of the 70's seeing a 246 Dino in Exchange and Mart for £2000. It was so tempting but I already had a 3ltr Marcos (and no garage) so had to pass on it ... still think about it - that 'what if' feeling.

If we are talking about cars I went to buy with the money in my pocket, there was a Gilbern Invader Estate in Kent which was nothing like the images provided, although he did take me down the A 20/M20 at over 100mph.

Then there was the orange Lotus Elise. New. Main dealer. Test drive just didn't do it for me. I was mega disappointed, because I went to buy that one.

The others were not that close. Never been interested in the supercar end. My choices have always been for small/compact cars, because I find them the most fun.

Peter, around the same time as your missed opportunity during the fuel crisis, I was trying to sell my old 6276cc Jensen interceptor, no takers... ended up swapping it for a rusted out 912...

Just a very few years earlier, someone offered me an E Type when I had advertised the LWB Safari which I had rebuilt out of three old LR`s, and I remember nocking him back saying..."Do you think I am nuts.."..!!!

Yeah time changes much... (-:
